    Not sure how to explain it, but this is unlike anything I've ever read and yet it still feels really familiar. The setting is weirdly scientific but also mysterious. Reminds me of City of Bones, I think? But definitely more mature than a YA. Hope to keep reading! The cold open is kind of jarring - if you are not into that kind of thing then you'd probably be really lost, but I don't like long-winded explanations of lore and worldbuilding anyway so this is good.
