Leo, an E-Sports pretty Boi, gets selected to join the elite Vanguard to protect Earth from the invading plant monsters. He uses his support gear from the back and uses his rear position to better direct his team.
Can't wait to see what sort of trouble Leo and his team gets into, and the different direction he is taking his gear.

I've read or are following most of the SCS Fan Fictions. The Rise of the Phoenix is a new and interesting addition. The world building by Ravensdager (The author of Stray Cat Strut) is followed faithfully so everything feels the same.
In the advanced, future world setting, the MESH is a 3D fully immersive environment people use for social media and gaming. Here the Main Character, Leo, aka Phoenix, is a gamer who participates in a Team-vs-Team game as a Vanguard/Samurai. (Knowledge of what these and Antithesis are does require reading at least book 1 of Stray Cat Strut, so go do that!)
During a game an Incursion happens and the fake Samurai becomes a real Samurai in Real Life. How the Leo handles the transition and learning how different being a RL Samurai really is, is the journey; People die, being injured hurts, and points do matter. Leo really sees himself as the Hero and tries to step up to meet the challenges.
As usual in this world setting, Leo gains an advanced alien Artificial Intelligence in his head called Aegys. Interfacing with his AI, which has it’s own agenda, adds depth to the story.
Style is first person. The story is a slice of life, progression story where the MC learns how best to become powerful enough to survive battling the Antithesis.
Grammar so far is very good. Characters, however need a bit of work. While the MC is good, the side characters are a bit flat. I can see that situation improving as the story progresses.
So, overall this is a very good addition to the SCS universe and worth your time.

So I'm preempting the new chappies. The basic concept of this Fic is actually amazing. Game tourney about a game where you play a Vanguard where some of the players actually become their chosen builds as an incursion happens DURING the Tourney? Sign me up, I'm in! Phoenix really doubles down with the premise too, as two of the players initialize, but also with the unique builds and leaning into them early. The characters know what they want so there's a lot less faffing about, which makes things feel all that much more real. :3
