- Exo.AhmedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think this is good, I am definitely looking for more of this so keep going.
I find the multiple characters' perspectives interesting and their diversity, like I am imagining the samurai teaming with the pirate and the thought of pirates and samurais makes me say "Hell yeah!"
So yeah, keep going, I am looking forward to more of this. - GhostcatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Drifters is an overall good read, with a grounded sense of what could happen if aliens decided to snatch exceptional people from 1850. The style is mainstream, easily readable, on the Hemingway side of things. The author doesn't go flowery, but saves the punch for characterization. That is where Drifters really shines. Character. Each character has strong, unique attributes and faults that carry through the story well. The interactions are excellent and telling, and the consequences are compelling. Give it a read if you like team building and competition.
- MordicantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love the story so far, reviewing at chapter 11. While the concept of disparate characters being grouped randomly to take on challenges isn't at all new, there is almost always some forcing element involved. Typically, they will have to undermine the System trying to control them and escape, or they are trapped in another world with no choice but to participate or die, or their loved ones are being kept hostage to ensure their behavior or something. Drifters doesn't have any of this external forcing motivation. The characters are free to join the contest or not, and they can even write letters to their families. They are treated with respect in their new environment and there is no threat of death from other contestants, with whom they can converse and hang out. This deviation from the norm leads to a bright and funny story where we as readers are free to enjoy the contests and characterization without stress.
On top of that, the characters feel different and fleshed out, which can be very difficult to do when writing characters from four unique cultures. A+. - ratman71111Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0i am so glad i decided to read this story, it truly is a shining gem. many other stories take bland plots and give them new bland parts, but this story is its own idea, well-crafted and well-written. the characters seem realistic so far and the alien tech is advanced without seeming impossible. the author seems to have a good idea of how each of the characters' homes would work and how the characters would be affected by those. generally a great story and a fun read.
- FalstaffRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So far, it's exactly what the blurb promises! I haven't read the other stories the author's written, but there's enough explaining in the first chapter that I wasn't lost about what's going on.
The grammar and style are pretty solid.
Go on, give it a try!
This is exactly 50 words - oswaldideRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The setting is really fun! The alien tech allows for a whatever-you-want kind of adventure so it never gets boring. Rather, you find yourself wanting to find out what fun tasks lie ahead.
The characters drive this whole story forward with their very distinct personalities, goals and morals. Expect a very large cast on this spaceship with a handfull of side characters and of course our 4 mains.
I would personally wish for some more overarching plots to connect these adventures, rather than a mostly episodic format but that's subjective :)
