Description
Some choices are easy. For Lio Frye joining the Rhoth Initiative was a no-brainer. But enlisting as a mercenary in an intergalactic conflict spanning millennia poses other questions. Like:
Why are humans so squishy? I’m fightingthat? Why did evolution give me crappy stats?
As a fresh recruit, Lio has to train and earn her rank among a coalition of alien species through the Proving. Failure means being shuttled to administration, forced to serve out her contract by pushing paper and bound to a cubicle. But if she succeeds Lio scores an Aether Regulation Apparatus - where users can level and gain abilities beyond human limitations.

- AnonymousOpossumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So for a first chapter it has grabbed my attention I really look forward to what more is to come for Lio. I enjoy the grittiness of the purest actually mutilating themselves just so it can be a big FU to the Rhoth. totally realistic that certain countries would totally destroy their monoliths and not even consider joining an alien race. Also what a crap 22 birthday, I'd want to join an alien Initiative too if that's how mine went. So all in all really look forward to reading more can't wait to see an update.
- RoseButterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As of chapter 4, Drifter is looking up. The setting is steeped in potential, with hints of a contemporary society grappling with identity following first contact culture shock. The character development, so far, has been on point, with personalities taking shape under delicate brush strokes. The dialogue tastes butter smooth, seamlessly baking context into every utterance and paragraph. Delicious.
The story flows beautifully (at this point). The mechanics and fundamentals are tight. Drifter should easily hit trending, it's that good. :D
