Description
When the stewards of the world of Gamdrea begin their game, they aren't supposed to effect the world directly, but they can choose avatars and champions to represent them. And they can pull souls from another world to fight their battles for them. But when the darkness finds a loophole to tip the balance into his favor, the light's pool of potential champions is almost drained. To earth's souls who find themselves on Gamdrea's surface, it's all just a game, a new edgy technology allowing them to play video games while they sleep, but to some it feels real. To the peoples of Gamdrea it is far from a game. It's their life. The light's power is now limited to a few and those few have seeds of darkness influencing them. Will the light prevail or will the darkness win the day?

- WiggletonXXXIIIRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Love the idea. Fascinated by the role the stewards will play, and I really enjoy the dynamic of the clear good versus evil. There are glimpses of interesting world building in the first few chapters, and the concept is fascinating. This sort of video-gamey story is not my cup of tea, though; I won't be reading any farther, but I suggest that anyone who enjoys that sort of thing try this.
- JirikiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Really enjoyed this unique take on a Matrix / Ready Player One universe. Love the heavy fantasy tilt, yet plenty of room to loop in cybertech. If you have any experience with older text based MUDs or early MMO's or ever had to code a game mechanic iworkflow, it brings memories to surface.
Story is well thought and novel.
Can see how the heavy focus on char stats and mechanics can be distracting from the story, but for me it enhances and pulls me into it.
The character building (outside of the stats) is clean and distinct. Interesting characters, but can only go so deep in 6 chapters; so plenty of room to grow.
Action sequences are engaging with a good flow; again taking into consideration the theme of stat building... that challenging and I think is pulled off well.
There is a solid line in good/bad morality and singlular story path... again only intro chapters. Lots of room to grow complexities, sub plots and diverging themes. The character's quick leveling and advanced attributes is blatant, so would like to see that to become an issue. The exploration, grind, quest/story directing is broached, but overly difficult, glitches, forced limited options that games goof on are all additional aspects that can still be explored.
I want to see how story transitions into the real from the cyber. Hope this keeps getting fleshed out.
