Community Rating

Description

Mankind lives in networks of caverns large enough to hold entire cities. To rise to the surface is to risk the ire of hostile entities from the sky, to delve too deep into the earth may awaken ancient horrors from their slumber.

In that subterranean world, Casimir Shuisky seeks to fix an old mistake at any cost.

Features dungeons, radioactive golems, a post apocalypse, and slight elements of Mesopotamian myth.

Big fan of your story, it felt and read like a professional novel. I've attached a few notes to highlights the things I enjoyed.
    I like how you've set up Casimir's family. I don't know squat
about these people, but the family dynamic is enjoyable, and
you've already set up some interesting tid-bits about their
past, like a sister that died several years ago.
You do a good job setting up this exam, you don't tell us
much about it in the first chapter, but you've doled out
enough breadcrumbs that I'm really curious.
A lot of writers are so excited to show off their ideas that
they trip over themselves in the first chapter to frontload
all of the cool stuff. I appreciate your measured approach,
in chapter 2, it's casually mentioned everyone is living
underground, but you're not quick to give up the secret and
    divulge more details.
Kaczmarek is such a deliciously evil villain, I love to hate
    him.
    Keep up the great work!

So far, I like what I’m seeing. The author really drops bits of worldbuilding drip by drip. This allows the reader to not be overwhelmed by the culture and environment. It makes you want to read further and learn more about the world the story takes place in.
They also press in how unfair and stacked society is. This happens for a very good reason relating to the division of a resource you’ll find out about later.
But the unfairness is counter balanced by the authenticity of its depiction of religion. The faith of the setting underpins many interactions that make it feel authentic and real. It’s not just a generic stand in religion RR tends to use, it feels like it has weight and gravitas.
The main thing you should get out of this review is that the chapters so far are gearing up to show us a bigger world soon. I’m very excited, and it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
The idea of a underground society after the world has been ruined has been done before, but rarely do they stay compelling. The religion and nature of the underground society and how it looks definitely sets it above other efforts in my opinion.
It’s worth every star, from grammar, story beats, worldbuilding, and dialogue. It definitely stays interesting each chapter.
