- umameRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Five chapters in and this is easily one of the best stories I've read on RR comparable with a real novel. While I may change this review if it goes downhill later on, I can honestly say that it is obvious that the author has put in a lot of effort to make a perfect story (so far anyway).
The grammar is great, no criticisms there. That said my grammar isn't the best so maybe I'm wrong but the story flows nicely when you read it. There have been no issues where I had to re-read a sentence because it was confusing.
The story is engaging, internally consistent and keeps hinting at more things to come. The hook is solid, the motivations behind the MC's actions make sense.
I like the style of the novel. There have been no infodumps, the author going to great lengths to show not tell us what is going on. The fic is well paced with decent combat and good dialogue. The chapter sizes are satisfying and move the plot forwards without wasting word count on filler content or obtrusive litrpg elements.
The MC is a dragon and so far seems really cool. The'yre not just a passive character reacting to things as they come. They're driving the fic forwards with their actions. And seems to have a personality beyond being a blank self insert. - Emily_RoseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its been great to read a story with a trans protaganaist. Being a giant man eating dragon only increases the charm and enjoyment of the story. trans dragon <3
10/10 everyone should read
Oh apparently I need fifty words ???
story is really good. Trans dragon trans dragon trans dragon :3 <3 - FiieriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So this Story caught my interest by featuring a dragon. I am a simple man, so I just started reading
And I was more than pleasantly surprised by it. Typh is a well thought out character, with flaws and strengths alike. The basic setting is "male dragon takes on the form of female human to hide inside of human settlements, after himself being banned from dragon society for being way too small compared to his siblings". The setting is cruel, there is a lot of misery even directed at the main cast, but on the other hand their wins are fought for hard and very satisfying to witness :-)
there are no gender bending low hanging jokes though, Typhs decision makes sense in hindsight and the story features romantic and relationships going south as well. In my opinion all of these things are done expertly and with great care to hold up the integrity of the characters involved and not just to push forward the plot.
Future readers may consider that therefore some resolvment of social conflict may take a longer while than typical in fantasy settings where often saving the day is enough to kit any broken relationships (which is a valid way to handle romance in fiction mind you, but not present in this one which is perfectly fine as well. Humans and dragons disguised as humans are complicated :-) ).
the fight scenes are fast paced with action, often enough with high stakes to not let you feel exhausted by a grind for levels and can be followed easily.
The grammar is way above anything I could produce so I got no critic there and can recommend the story to anyone looking for a story where the main characters have a lot of struggling to do but also take home precious wins... :-)
overall you can feel that the author has put a lot of thought and emotions into the story, the setting and above all the characters. They make you feel like hating the antagonists, being frustrated by the indoctrination done to the human population and be invested into the journey of self finding and saving - KhajarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is a very well thought out and executed fantasy tale.
The style with multiple POV's and intertwining narratives makes for an engaging reading, while still coherent and easy to follow.
The story is very interesting and the world building is amazing.
I love the attention that every new character receives and how it keeps adding new favorites to my list.
There is no problems with the grammar and I don't even remember finding any glaring errors...
Love the long chapters and the detailed scene descriptions. The pacing might get a little strange sometimes, either going too fast or to slow in action scenes.
But overall this is an amazing book that I highly recommend. - KomayaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read the first book on Kindle and now I'm hear reading the rest as it releases. I real enjoy how all the characters have their own motivation and approach situations with their own bias.
The action is well written and descriptive. Both the sex and violence are equally descriptive.
Good grammar and I'm really enjoying the story so far. - PepsiSucksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You ever go into a story and just kind of say "Meh, I aint got much to do this weekend, I can binge something". And then something grabs your attention, because it looks mildly interesting.
Then you find yourself three days later feeling kind of hollow now that your all caught up.
That's a bit how I feel at the moment.
Onto the review
The last story I reviewed I gave 0.5 stars. It's called "Worth the Candle" and I hated it. Mostly becasue the Author had a decent enough story that got progressivly worse and worse and worse over time with their complete and utter disregard for pacing and immersion (The "break the 4th wall" trope was rampant in that story and it did not work at all even a little bit for me.) I say that, to say that I'm habitually a harsh crittic when I do review fiction.
This story also does suffer from a pacing issue, at least a little bit, in the first half of book one. It does however get a lot of the really mandatory world building explicit exposition stuff out of the way in book one as well (Ch.1-39); in order to service the plot later on. Hence the 4.5 on style and story.
(Don't worry we'll get to why it's a 5 star overall and it mostly has to do with stuff towards the end of book 1, book 2 and yet to be released stuff in book 2. There will be zero spoilers).
But I freely admit that these are personal, very minor, and subjective gripes that I would not have the author change at all. It's just something for me, and it's only even worth half a star if that as a complaint. It is after all their story told how they want to tell it. I'm just some asshole with a keyboard.
And while I personally don't find 'world-building' to be very entertaining. And I actively rebuke people who say that Sanderson does not simply pad his books with mountains of useless filler in order to space out stories told via expositional, tone deaf, author inserted "this happened, and then this happened and then this, ect. ect. ect."; instead of showing a story unfolding and char - ShirbuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's good on all fronts, far as I can tell. Main character is not all knowing, nor are they all powerful, and they have some very key and obvious blindspots to match their potency. While they may be individually stronger than all the characters we have met thusfar, this is balanced by the fact that a coordinated strike from any significant portion of the characters at once would lead to their sure death. That is generally the range of power I enjoy the MCs I read to be at, at the very top range of their strength.
Story so far is compelling, somewhat slice-of-life esque with a focus on adventuring, which is pretty bread and butter, but bread and butter is delicious.
Stylistically, built like a really really twisted DnD campaign where level 20 characters and level 1 characters are in the same party at the same time, and there is a world outside of adventuring and killing, which I like.
Money is valuable, and work pays well enough to live, though not lavishly for long, which is a good stylistic choice to maintain the grind.
Grammar is impeccable thusfar, which is nice. I am very anal about that, so it always brings a shine to my eyes when a write puts their story through Grammarly, and then gives it a once over, instead of just writing and never looking back.
Characters are interesting, flawed, mostly unique, and develop over time for the most part. They tend to follow a pretty clear DnD alignment on the whole, and the spread is pretty enjoyable. - Sondrex76Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this so far, the MC is a dragon, and clearly has draconic instincts, but learns to love aspects of being human and is surprisingly moral at some points, finding mind magic inherently evil, for example, and acknowledging monster races and humans as people, even if lesser than dragons.
The levelling system is also interesting, it feels more integrated into the world than in many other stories, and feels better explained and developed than in most stories.
A nice read, I would heavily recommend it if you like stories of a non-human MC pretending to be human. - Tanner_1000Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I read a review stating something about using some erotica in it and anything that has to do with that or has a sex theme; I absolutely despise, so I was already ready to ignore this story and look out for another new novel. Due to the fact that so many novels do so, where there is no plot apart from that and any character growth. Making to story repetitive and boring.
Thankfully, I ignored that part and read the novel. Very entertaining with misunderstandings and how each character acts/personality made the story fluidly feel like it being real. I can say confidently that this story with the way it's going would make it to the best rated novels given time and if it manages to attract other readers. All you need to know for the summary without giving toomuch is that the mc is a dragon, arrogant yet somehow manages to be cute and the strong use of gender bender that, feels odd saying this, somehow manages to work out without it being glaringly detailed in awkward events/actions to do so, if that makes sense. Also slice of life+ some wholesome moments. - VintearisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Initally I checked the story because I'm big fan of them since childhood (my first book in life as 7y old kid was Eragon. I cried when it ended ;D). But there is fear in me every time I check out dragon story because authors like to put isekaied old nerd into dragon body who whines that he wants humanoid form once more and even has a gal to fight in this form over using dragon form because soft skin of a human is equal to dragon scales. To be honest though great stories are not about Supreme dragon bodies. They are about characters so clearly different and alien to us, humans. Whether it's human form, dragon form, snake, carp or kobold dragon is first and foremost in mind and character.I t's about a creature that is greedy, prideful and dominating. This is what makes dragons truly interesting especially when their so different nature clash with alien to them new environments or as this novel proposed, human society. Especially since our dear Mc dragon is a male and as we know men likes to dominate just as dragons yet he will have to brave the challenge as a gender that...likes to be taken care of, maybe sometimes even use their own... New advantages when being in position of power weakness thst is so anathema to draconic society thst is based on domination.
Maybe it's unfair that I give a review so early into the story, merely 4 chapters and author doesn't seem to have others novels written. But there are some novels that you know are destined for greatness since prologue. In the beginnjng there is no info dump. Great example of show don't tell. Despite it being only few beginning chapters There is already promise of great mystery on the horizon, danger, mysteries from distant past, maybe even politics between races etc.
Another my fear thst for now at least didn't appear and there are no signs of it appearing in the future was gender bender part. Not because I feel uncomfortable with trans people or other bullshit but because those stories tend to go to 2 directio
