Reg can see ghosts. He can hear them, too. He wishestheydidn't know that.

Burnt out from his career as a paranormal crime consultant, Reg rebrands himself as the friendly, neighborhood medium. Long gone are the days of yellow police tape and body bags. Reg’s new career is easy, stress-free, and, most importantly, void of anything that goes bump in the night trying to kill him. Unfortunately, while Reg may have washed his hands of the paranormal crime scene, it’s not yet done with him. When a vengeful spirit demands Reg solve its murder, the former investigator is thrust back into the sordid world of death, ghosts, and monsters for one last case.

Double Dare was a fun story made for the RR community magazine contest and it delivered on the premise in an enjoyable and amusing way. Sprinkles of seriousness, a bit of humor, and a dash of surprisingly good chemistry and the Double Double was born.
It follows along a 'half-breed' reaper just skating by life, reluctant to get involved with the paranormal, but as fate's grubby paws would always have it, he's forced to get his hands dirty once more and embrace the side of him he avoided.
The characterization felt quite strong, with both Reg and Tera having a strong individuality and an even better chemistry together - was definitely rooting for them from start to finish. The obsessively OCD Nick Dare was also a good touch to add - and I'd definitely like one of them in my life, to clean up all the messes. For a short story with 8 chapters, it's really nice to have characters you can actually think of in their own way.
Grammatically nothing major, some small slipups here an there.
Stylewise it was just great, no complaints.
In the end it was a fun premise that could easily be fleshed out into a series of unfortunate unfinished business. Case after case of Detective Reginald Reaper, and his charmingly cute and violent Terrible Tera the accident-prone.

An interesting start,  the "hero" is just waiting in the hospital emergency for his assistant to get out. He seems a bit burnt out...
We have a world where the paranormal is quite common, with ghost-buster vibes.. much of it seems reasonably mundane, but we will see how this develops - the "hook" at the end of the first chapter suggests all is not well out there in the ghost world.

This story is an interesting take on reapers and supernatural elements coming into contact with normal people - although Reg does not appear to be ordinary in any way. The grammar is excellent, although the characters sometimes show actions exaggerated to the point of caricature, but then again this is a Comedy. Despite the stereotypical characters and lots of interesting information about the world that has never been properly expanded upon, this has been an enjoyable read.
TL;DR Decent read but don't expect a masterpiece. Decent at what it tries to accomplish.
