- Publius Decius MusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Horror is a very personal thing. I mean that what is and what isn't horror is very depentendent on the reader.
For me, these short stories were very disturbing pieces of horror. I cannot say that I was surprised, because I have already read parts of the author's other book, and knew that they have truly wicked imagination.
Still, reading these were like so many punches in the gut. That's what you expect from horror after all.
But, this all comes with the caveat, that I am rather weak-minded. One could say I am wimpy. I am easily impressed by horror. Maybe a true connoisseur of the genre will not find it sufficiently disturbing, who knows.
Let's take a look at the particulars.
Style:
It seems like a stream of consciusness. Maybe it really is, maybe it isn't. I think it gives back the milieu of nightmares too well, too accurately for the text not to be carefully written and edited.
But who knows? It's only the end-product that matters anyway, and that is damn good.
Story:
Fucked up things happen in Dreamland. And in the real life too. I am not sure which is which.
Grammar:
I was too disturbed to pay attention to the grammar. I think it was good.
Character:
There aren't really any, and they aren't important.
Overall, I think it's worth to give this piece a read. You can decide whether it's to your liking after the first two short-stories.
