Description
The class divide still exists in the future, and it has gotten much worse. There are many different types of worlds, from the paradise worlds where everyone is immortal, to the resource depleted, war-torn planets where every day is a struggle just to live.
Freya O'Malley grew up on Earth, the worst of the war-torn planets, and wants nothing more than to leave. With few options, Freya joins the Federation Marines. But, unlike the past, it's a struggle to earn enough enlistment points to stay in. With the prize of a citizenship on a paradise world at stake, competition is fierce. Every week is a new war. Can Freya earn enough points in the constant warring of the Marines to modify her body and mind to stay competitive? Can a girl from the wrong planet make it against those who have all the advantages?

- Lesley DouglasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0THis story is a very good read! I am sorry I came to it this early as I am hungry for chapters to be posted. I find the stor to have a lot of original elements and the fact that the MC is a young lady is a plus.
There writer is building world that is believable if the current earth residents keeps on it choosen path of destroying the planet. We have a MC that I think is a battle manic, but because the people she fights with can respawn she is not seeing the true death and issues of war. But I have hopes someone’s digital record will lost and she will see a bit of trauma.
Also the woman that she e her sound advice time and time again. Com her drill sergeant to one of her bunkmates.
keeping on writing and I will keep on reading. - CasualGrain11Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the best story I've ever read. Things make sense and the mc isn't infallible. The overall story isn't much, but following the life of the mc is what really shined through for me.
To summarize, the mc joins a space pmc structured like the USMC, I say this bc it's run by capitalism based on merit. All soldiers are downloaded into the "internet?" and train in simulations. Then can spawn in bodies for real combat. The story really pushes the limits of said combat respawning in a fresh take for me.
The litrpg tropes royalroad are known for are also present, mostly in the form of purchasable trainings and biological upgrades. The builds that result from this feel like an accurate portrayl of how a sci fi human military should function, with excepts to space combat. It's a fresh take since most sci fi I've read mainly involves space naval battles. It kind of feels like starship troopers, except less satirical.
Anyway, it's unfortunate the author went radio silent, there is extra chapters on the pateron that do finish the last arc though. Hopefully the author picks it up again in the future, but it's a good 10 hours worth of reading at least. - paperhouseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've really enjoyed this story, both for binging and following updates.
its a novel take on VR/LitRpg, and I love how the author wove the litrpg elements into a sci-fi setting without using some abstract 'system'. World building and exposition are well done, as you slowly learn though the story why the organization of the marines initially seems so weird. The author definitely put a lot of thought and planning into the setting, and it shows. characterization isn't focused on, and is limited outside of the MC and a few side characters. That being said the MC still has depth and development, it's just not a focus.
if you'd enjoy a military/sci-fi focused on action/adventure, and don't mind inception style nested tables, this is the story for you. - Jangofet54Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Everything I've read until now when it comes to military/scifi on this site pales in compare to this. The story is detailed, the litrpg elements aren't confusing while still being relavent and add onto the novel, the military elements feel accurate (I'm not an expert so I can't really say if they're acurate or not), and most of all the story itself is an amazing and fun read.
My one complaint is that there aren't enough chapters and I humbly request more chapters. - sleepy_hikerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is one of my favourite stories on RR. The start of the story was a little rough, but it has gotten better. I quite like the Sci-Fi parts of the story, and how it all starts to make more sense as the story progresses.
Style: Most of the story is either action or sci-fi, with some slice-of-life parts. The action scenes are described quite well and are easily understandable. As for the sci-fi, mostly it is all based on a certain direction, and the worldbuiling is done well. Also, after heavy action parts, the author always includes some relaxing and fun parts, such as shopping for new tech. This ensures that the story flows well and is not too stressful.
Story: The story is based on a female soldier who is a new recruit and who gradually rises up in ranks. The society is highly competitive, and the MC has to work hard to progress. There are some very interesting premises that the author has included that are highly imaginative. Also, the way that the MC gets stonger in not OP, and sets limits to what she can achieve in a short period of time. I haven't noticed plot armor at all yet.
Grammar: There are some small typos and grammatcal mistakes, but they do not distract from the story.
Character: The MC is a strong and brave female, who despite her good fighting skills, has emotions and weaknesses. The other characters are not fleshed out too well, and are usually recognisable because of one defining feature (e.g. strict authority figure, mistrusting comrade). Most characters besides the MC seem quite one-dimessional, though there are some interesting personas in-between.
Overall, I would recommend this story to anyone who likes Sci-Fi. - Excal04Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5A really enjoyable read.
Futuristic tech plus a bit of magic in a marine’s life is what this is and it is really well made.
Though it has a lot of metrics involved throughout the story, it gets really immersive and interesting. Go in with no reservations and you will find it pretty interesting. - ShaylaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I came with the expectation to read something similar to Two Worlds and I was pleasantly surprised.
The story had me hooked from the start, with the only issue being a bit too many grammar errors in chapter 2 or 3. After that the amount of errors lessened noticeably where only a word or two was wrong.
The story itself has a novel idea on virtual reality and delivers it well, with most of the story being from Freya's pov, although the few experiments with other pov's has been good. Characters have been slightly forgettable, but at the same time people can be moved up or down platoons at any time so there's not much chance to write deeper backstories or connections especially with Magic's fast track in ranks.
Great story, can't wait to see arc 2 in its full. - AsinRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Found this while strolling through RR and so far it has been very interesting to see our MC grow from a no name noob to a talented and experienced soldier that makes you want to look forward to the next mission.
One thing that's been bugging me is the lack of tension in the story. The story revolves around a military that's basically immortal with the repawns, tech, and tactical advantage , its a daunting task to present an enemy that can match up with the Marines. And a challenge the author answered in the second book.
I'm looking forward to how everything will play out with the introduction of a new foe for our MC and her Marines . Hopefully everything works out in the end. Thank you for giving us this story and Stay safe ! - StillnessRoyal Road★★ 2.0This story has two main things going for it. One, the story is set in the future where our protaganist, Freya, signs up with the military for a better life. Her body is broken down into base compounds and saved, with her mind uploaded onto a spaceship with thousands of others overseen by an AI. They are effectively immortal soldiers who are always training. Two, the simulated missions onboard are both interesting and cool. Unfortunately, there are three terible things about this story. One, the main character is a Mary Sue. I personally don't mind this much, but she will rarely fail at anything she does. Two, more egregiously, Freya has all the personality of a cardboad cutout. Surprisingly enough, the side characters have more personality, but as everything is from Freya's point of view, it is hard to have genuine interaction with only one real person. Third, most critically, the way the military is run is absolutly moronic. The story is set up to make this game world simulation posible, so the military justifies the division of 'resouces' as giving only the best stuff to the best. The problem is that the entire system promotes individual excelence to the detriment of the team and the mission. For example, all 'resources' are virtual so it costs nothing to provide them, yet the individual marine has to pay for everything they use. Imagine a fighter pilot who has to pay for both their training and the fighter itself. The barrier to entry is massive and effectively cripples the military's effectivness. Marines have to get points to get better gear, training and stay in the military itself. Making too many sacrifices for the team can cripple your future, so why would you? There are some other issues with the system, but that's the most important. It effectivly makes the story non-sensical, regardless of how interesting the missions are.
- argusthecatRoyal Road★ 1.0Okay, this one is weird.
First off, the grammar. There's some mistakes. Like, ketchup-on-corn-flakes mistakes. There are some parts where words are used that just don't make *any* sense, even accounting for possible typos, and I don't know how they happened. But whatever, they're not that bad, and context always let me know what was going on. Needs an editing pass, but not too bad.
Now, the characters. They're kinda cool! Well, the one real character is kinda cool. The exploration of homeworld-bigotry is well done, and so is some of the actual conversations with our protagonist that aren't just info dumps. I'd like to learn more about her, you know?
Which brings us to something related to the info dumps, that I feel awkward bringing up.
This system is industrial-strength dumb.
The main character joins the marines. Okay, fine. They melt down her original body for materials (weird, but whatever) and load her brain into a simulation for training (alright, sweet) where she's expected to pay for her own meals with credits earned from training missions (wait, what?).
So far (chapter 11), the entire story takes place in a simulation, but the soldiers are expected to pay for their own food, lodging, equipment, and *respawns on training missions*, like it's some kind of video game and not an actual military. Putting aside how absolutely stupid the economics of this are, it's even worse that they won't teach recruits anything until they earn enough skill points, effectively cutting their own supply of skilled soldiers. The main character shows the willingness, aptitude, and drive to be a pilot, and they tell her she hasn't *leveled up enough yet*.
This is not military sci-fi. Any actual military that ran this way would belong to a civilization so hedonistically stupid that it either would have imploded a century ago, or it's already so impossibly powerful that the concept of a "military" is almost pointlessly meaningless. This is a VRMMO story, where the charac
