Description

Shiina has it good for a mimic.  Instead of blundering into a short lethal fight after forming, she was scouted out by a gifted rogue and offered a job in a training dungeon, helping adventurers learn about common dungeon traps.  She gets all the surprises she needs to feed, along with superior cooked food, and books to learn about the rest of the world.

But when a necromancer upends her pleasant little dungeon job she finds herself drawn into a new opportunity.  A chance to tour the world outside her little dungeon.  Meet new cultures, eat new things, try out new object forms.  And occasionally murder very important people.

Of course she jumps at the chance.  Who wouldn't?

Currently updating weekly on Saturdays.

Diary of a Traveling Mimicfollows Shiina and her friends over their many journeys across a large world.  Expect a mix of discovery, self improvement, and violence, both in and out of dungeons.  I'll also be adding little excerpts about the world in Shiina's writings.

As for the warning tags : While none of them will be a primary focus, there will be people getting hurt/killed, terrible people doing terrible things, and while there will be no 'on screen' sex several characters will have a sex life and will discuss it.

There will be small chunks of game elements, but no giant statblocks or obsessive focus.

It is a light story about a mimic and her  companions traveling  from place to place and having adventures.
The mimic has some non human character traits but behaves and thinks generally as a human in a non human body. This does not detract from the story but I hope the mimicness of the MC will lead to some interesting character interactions later in the story. The mimic power are fun and interesting to read about.
The characters could be a little more fleshed out but all in all there is definitely still time for the story to do this. The characters that are not traveling companions could use some more depth.
Chapters are divided in two parts, one part reads like any other story while the second part is written in universe by the mimic in her diary. The second part gives some more interesting information as well as some views and feelings of the MC.
All in all a nice and fun story so far, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice fun read. Ideal for reading one adventure and coming back later when the next one is completed.
Maybe five stars is too much because it has some minor flaws, but everyone knows the real rating is between 4 and 5 stars  and I don't want to bring down this story by lowering the rating.

A very good read just finished way to quick. Liked the idea of a mimic character becoming a  little bit more defined. This was a fun little read.
I also liked the idea that the MC had fallen in with a hidden group in such a unforseen way. Did feel the MC went from having some issues to having no issues fighting well above her weight class.

This is a solid story so far. The author show his year of dedication studying mimic in the wilderness pays off with a very authentic sounding story!
As a mimic scholar, and a scientist (and possibly a historian too), the author slowly expose us to the current most accurate theory on dungeon growth, secret skill and other discoveries the mysterious Arbiters have been researching. And possibly lead us, I believe toward the latest exciting mystery left to explore.
Only 4 stars not due to any inherent particular flaw, it's just not a cult story yet.
