Description

Erica Rivers’ life shattered the day her child was born. The once mundane world turned cruel, and with every loss, despair tightened its grip. Broken and alone, a voice whispered into her mind—offering her a chance at salvation. But is it the voice of a benevolent higher being or the desperate creation of her crumbling psyche?

As Erica journeys into a world of towering giants, fractured faith, and relentless conflict, she is joined by a cast of vivid, morally complex characters. Together, they grapple with questions of loyalty, identity, and the nature of good and evil. What defines us—our actions or our intentions?

Devour the Sunis a haunting exploration of love, loss, and the bonds that both save and destroy us. Perfect for fans of dark, thought-provoking fantasy, this is a story where heroes and villains are two sides of the same coin—and the cost of redemption may be too steep to bear.

This story is about a woman suffering multiple tragedies and watching her life crumble as a result, followed by a friendly voice offering her the power to fix it if she does a favour for it. That of course rings every alarm bell, but at this point our main character is a bit past such trifles like self-preservation.
Have not really found any grammar-issues so full stars on that one.
Same with Style; the author very much showed in the prologue that they know how to properly set a scene and make you feel accordingly (in this case disturbed to horrified), which gives me high hopes for future cases but now with characters we already know and care about.
As for story, not super much has happened so far: Our main character's life collapsed and she is now likely on a nice scenic road to hell paved with her desperation. The hints of the larger world we have seen made me interested, pacing was good so far, and some dominoes have started falling. Overall, interested to see where it goes, but not much there to rate yet.
The author promised in the synopsis morally complex characters, and I already both see our main character growing into one, and don't completely believe that the "voice" is simply your stereotypical pure evil dealmaker.
I especially like the smaller things that make our main character imperfect: she is described as being below average intelligent (not to the detriment of the story), becomes rude and unfriendly due to the long-term stress she suffered under (though she was very much justified in one case), and has shown a rather biased worldview at times. Overall, she is very human, and an average one at that and this makes feel everything more real and personal. The only thing that stands out is her will to keep going, yet even here one might argue that this is "just" her being a mother. I hope we get to see more facets of her in the future, when she got a bit of time to breathe and is not constantly consumed by her stress and problems.

So after stumbling over this Novel, i was intrigued to read it for two main reasons
First of i was kinda bored with the stuff i normaly read (which is on the softer more basic sides) but the introduction text caught my attention. It was something new for me, something dark and i wanted to try it out.....and what can i say even after 4 chapters i was flashed on how dark it is and also curious on how dark it will get. I have so many question surrounding Erika and her child but i cant ask them without spoilers....either way thats my first reason to look out for more to come
My second reason was the Psychology tag and as a Psychology student myself i wanted to see if that tag fits....AND HOLY S*** does it fit. Every char until now feels real and like they have a lot of real characteristics that i wouldnt have expected. The emotions discribed to the reader show that the Author needs to have deeper knowledge about Psychology which amazed me even more.
All in all i cant wait for more even tho it will take its time
PS. i hope the author knows that what they are doing is great
