Description

Joshua Durand has always lived in someone else’s shadow, a side character in someone else’s show. His brother was the real hero of the tale, or he was until his ‘friends’ stabbed him in the back. Now though, he’s got a chance to step into the spotlight, as long as he’s willing to make a deal with the devil. He doesn’t know if this is the right decision or the wrong one, but what he does know is “It’s showtime!”

This is forum quest story taking place in the same city/setting as my other stories:The Huntsman's QuestandHacking Realitystories meaning that while a majority of the plot is made up by me, the major choices as well as what each chapter is about are usually made by the actual readers in forum votes.

Additionally, given how this is essentially a story version of a Tabletop game there is also a background RPG system that while the characters aren't necessarily aware of, the readers can see these stats to know how each chosen 'Action' effects their character's development.

This story is set in the same world and city as two of this author's other stories.
The author has some interesting supernatural mechanics.
In this story the MC has the most interesting background (maybe, still don't know too much about Jon's) but starts out with the least amount of already built up skills/power.
I like Arthiceern's characters in all his stories.  They are generally ordinary people that have been touched by Madness (the main driving force of the supernatural, AFAIK).  In one story, the character thinks that he's ordinary but he's really not.  In another story, the character thinks that she's the greatest and most powerful genius in the world and isn't (yet?).  In this story, the MC desperately wanted to be extrordinary and when he gets that chance he grabs it and runs.
I rate by how much fun I have reading a story and I look forward to new chapters.

As a preface, this review covers the Prologue to Chapter 10:
Quick basic summary:  Essentially, from my pov, the story has to do with two worlds, one is trying to drain resources from another.  They do this but sending agents from their world to the other by using materials called "Malice".  "Malice" generates special ability in their wielder to allow them to traverse the other world safely (well at least reduce the risks as much as possible).
The plot follows the main character Joshua Durand from the day that he got his power through his journey to the other world (at least I think that's where the author is planning to go based on what I've read)
That's about as much as I'll write as a quick plot summary to avoid spoiling too much.
Now to go over the score:
    Grammar:
Not really much to say here.  The author has a good command of the English language.  If there are problems with his grammar, I didn't notice it or, at least, it wasn't jarring enough for me to notice.
    Character Score:
Personally, I like the character.  He's distinctive enough that I can tell whenever he's speaking without having to reference story cues.  While I do think that the "secretly" powerful archetype has been done quite a bit, it's still fun to read.  It makes the character more relatable.  I do think the scene where he allowed himself to be bullied for the sake of hiding his power does go a bit too far though.  I can understand why someone would allow it but this character, which a fairly aggressive personality, makes it hard to believe he can tolerate that much.  The lucky perv. did give me a bit of a chuckle.  Still funny.
    Style Score:
Need more flare.  I think other readers will disagree with me on this but personally, I kinda like the stats in tRPG.  I mean, is it really a LitRPG without stats?  Taking half a point of just for the lack of stats and for the fact that I'm still not sure how the power progression work yet.  I understand he can improve it by fighting but is it more of a "inc
