Description

Sci-fi dungeon crawler.

Set in the far future when humanity has reached the stars and finds it is not the first to do so. Alien technology has been left behind by a long dead race. Ancient cities, abandoned starships, temples and fortified bunkers all contain artefacts and devices far in advance of what humans have been able to produce. Technology that feels more akin to magic, so powerful it can allow a single person to dominate a star system. But these relics of another time have been left well-defended and behind bewildering and impenetrable security measures.

There are those who are compatible with the alien technology, who can augment themselves to face the evermore extreme protocols in the depths of the alien ruins, and by doing so attain greater power. And there are those who just want to sell what they find to the highest bidder.

The rewards are high, but you have to be prepared to go further and risk more to discover the greatest secrets of a civilisation that vanished long before the first human walked upright. Secrets that could irrevocably change humanity's future, or end it.

Well written, few grammar and spelling mistakes, decent pacing.
The three main characters are interesting, although everyone else they encounter is not around long enough to be fleshed out fully.
This is because the pacing is kind of quick and rapid-fire. Still, it's enjoyable in its own way, unless you're specifically looking for something slower paced.
The world is certainly original and interesting, with some funny parallels to modern corporate culture, which I find amusing.
    Overall a great story.

I was not expeting that when I started reading, didn't even see it was Mooderino who was writing this at first.
I usually think that the Sci fi story on this site don't hold up well or don't last long but with the world building you've done I can see it go far.
Your main three characters are really different from one another and really engaging, the fact that the chapters are usually split between them delays a bit the character building you can do but that's to be expected.

Logged in just to post this; the author has created one of the most iconic, probability manipulating, logic defying characters that i have ever had the pleasure of following. Go Ubik U Ubik you living legend you.

This is absolutely one of the best publications on Royal Road, let alone on the internet in general. I've read some of the author's other works, but this one is, imo, the best yet. Very consistent updates and a fast upload schedule make it very easy to stay riveted with the storyline, which is a big plus.
But why is this book so good?
The three main characters are all fantastic. I feel like I know them personally.
I generally don't like multiple POV stories because there is always one character I like/dislike and I start to care more about one POV than another... Leading to boredom in some chapters.
I have read innumerable books in my life, and I have to say that this book has perhaps been the most successful I have EVER read at making multiple POVs work.
The world of the story is also compelling, with mysterious alien technology and a fairly grand scope. Book 1 just concluded, and I feel like we've only scraped the tip of the iceberg.
Tl;dr read this one now; I guarantee you'll binge it and want more!

One of my favorite stories at the moment. Excelent characters and grammar, and the story is quite original, even if you consider it a mash-up of other concepts. It's also developing at quite a steady and pleasant pace; not too slow with useless parts, not too fast with rushed and unexplained scenes.
5/5 and even going Patreon for this.

quick review up to chapter 58:
style: gave it a whopping 4.5 since it is engaging, humorous and the author portraits the thought-process based on each characters background quite well.
story: The story is clearly character driven. Since each character has a clear motivation for his actions so far, the story deserves a good rating. I just hope it does not go into crazyland with the alien technology in the far future, but so far all good.
    grammar: cannot find fault
character: The strong point. Three unique backgrounds. Even though all three characters are portrait with a bit of OP skills in their area, it is still an engaging read.
Overall: Mooderino is a very creative author, both in storytelling and in wit, and you should give it a try. So far it has not disappointed. For me his other stories lacked perspective, since I enjoy to see events play out from different angles and reactions. Here we finally have 3 main characters that tell the tale.

Only 27 chapters in and already the story has a diverse list of interesting characters and vivid universe for them to live within. the story follows a handful of core characters (Point-2 FTW) while not enogh has been released for me to comment on the plot as the gang is only just now getting together I can comment of the writing itself... It's Mooderino, what more do you want? this dude can write and boy should we be gratful towards him the grammer, spelling paacing and anything else you can think of is flawless.
Look just read it or anyone of his myriad of other excellent stories you'll enjoy yourself.

The writing is good, characters have some actual depth. More importantly, they are all completely unique and so very quirky. Especially, Ubick. Every time I read a new chapter, I pretty much always laugh at his shenanigans, not to mention the digs at everything else. worth a read.

    Updated review:
It's been a while since I read this book, and I reread it and looked at current-ish chapters, and boy, does it start to drag on after where I had reviewed previously. The characters - except Ubik - start to get blander, the intrigue and plot starts feeling contrived rather than flowing naturally, etc...
Honestly, I'm mostly just here for Ubik at this point.
    Old review:
Hopefully if I praise his name enough I'll be able to get away-
On a serious note, the characters are absolutely wonderful (Ubik is my favorite character in all of fiction fight me), with deep and complex thought processes. Sure, sometimes their 'genius moves' kind of feel like plot convenience, but by that point your suspension of disbelief of what they can get away with has been thoroughly, mechanically, and surgically taken apart and atomized piece by piece.
The grammar is good, the style is great, I can almost feel the fear of other characters near The Walking Calamity Himself.
My one gripe with this story is, well, the story. It starts off great, with plenty of intrigue to keep you going, but at some point it kind of just starts to break the mold so much that you don't have enough time to catch up and fully understand what just happened before something even more impossible follows it up. Some people like that kind of story, so I won't knock it, but if the readers had a little bit more time to fully comprehend half of the things going on then this would be much more palateable for me.
Still love this incredible book though.

Was fairly interested in this story up until the introduction of the misandrist supersoldier space nazi amazons threatening genocide en masse for going against them. Even using those tactics as a form of intimidation against entire planets to capitulate to their demands in gross approximation of kangaroo courts with nearly planet wide sterilization on the line.
Yet rather than being viewed as the insane extremists they are they're depicted as a slightly fanatical police force of entire galactic societies.
Not sure if they're supposed to be some kind of commentary on feminism or something but I couldn't get past them.
