Description

Every now and then I pause and mourn, remembering how I lost myself and was subsumed. Briefly, of course. When facing a galaxy full of horrors and undying enmity, not to mention four unfortunately literal deadlines ticking away, waiting to rend asunder my body and soul, there’s only so much time for reflection and introspection.

It switches between different characters frequently most of whom i doubt we will hear from again, but the style is quite interesting. The writing style reminds me of Rudolf will Reign By John Hardinge, they are similar novels only John Hardinge's is based on earth's history and this is based on Warhammer 40K

A very interesting way of adapting self-insertion or a isekai-esque "main character" (it's not entirely clear, there were mentions of a character creater using a points system) and putting it into the context of the WH40K universe. It reads like a fun (and by fun I mean "fun" with the largest quotation marks, this is still extremely grimdark) experiment in cheating using the meta knowledge someone outside the setting itself would know and how the rest of the universe would react.
It's been a hot minute since I read any Warhammer stuff, so I had to look up some details, but the author has a great affinity with the setting and, more importantly, treats it with respect and their story fits comfortably within the scope, limitations, and character of the original setting. In fan fiction, this respect for the original material isn't always that common, and is very welcome.
I thoroughly enjoy the constantly switching perspectives, expertly written in the delightfully selfimportant prose that the setting is known for, with the perspective of the completely unhinged main character serving to connect the disparate dots. The character score is the only one I cannot give a full five stars, since the main character is left rather blank, and his entire reason for being is to carry out his multi-generational scheme. The other characters that pop up are, despite their ephemeral nature, often interesting and quirky, as is the accompanying information of their homeworlds or situation (you're a smoothbrain and can't afford extra tuition? Renting out your womb is the solution!).
I can thoroughly recommend this fanfic if you're looking for something drastically different thematically from basically every other isekai-esque on RR, or if you want to read an interesting thought experiment set in WH40K.
