Description

It was the 2010s and David was just a normal high school guy. He went to most of his classes, hung out with his friends, and tried to make his dad proud of him. One of those became significantly harder when the new kid Davide arrived on the scene and made David question everything he thought he knew about himself. He could never have predicted what would happen to the two of them, and the people around them, as their lives became more and more intertwined.

Davi and Davey is the kind of story I usually wouldn't pick up on my own. I love a good tragedy, yes, but I'm not the biggest fan of coming of age stories. Luckily for me, this is the worst kind of coming of age- instead of becoming a better version of yourself or who you could be in a happier life, Davi and Davey offers the reader a look into the life of a teen slowly becoming indoctrinated into prejudice and hatred.
As far as grammar and style go, the story is very clean. It's obviously written with a nod to the nostalgia of the 2010's, and is full of words I had never hoped to see again. Still, it makes the style into something lively and very young.
The story and characters are where the narrative really go above and beyond. Each character very clearly has a rich inner life. When you think about them, it's clear they could exist off the page. They could go shopping, attend classes, be with their families. These characters are realistic, and anyone who grew up queer in a conservative area will recognize these characters in their own past.
I really enjoy this story, and encourage you to give it a try. Thanks so much to the author, and I look forward to reading more!
