Dauntless: Origins

Description
Snow white hair, blue eyes, pale. Devil, monster, mutt, failure. This story follows one Tyr Faeron, crown prince, heir primus and mass murderer. A wrathful, angry, and lost young man that has made it his goal to hunt down the men that killed his mother - and he is on the cusp of finishing the promise he'd made before her cairn stones so many years ago. On the surface he is duplicitous, whimsical, and base of cunning - but within the depths beyond the many masks he wears, something is waiting. Waiting for an end, the end he'd come to long for, whether it be to himself or any possible threats in his vicinity.
After that long labor of vengeance is completed... Nobody knows, not even him - an arrogant and otherwise solitary individual with nothing in the way of friends - only the brothers of the blackguard who follow him through life as he pursues this mission.
He was born a prince, but he'd be called a disappointment - failing to manifest the great power that he was born to before being summarily discarded by his father, a 250 year old 'primus'. That word again... Men who can shatter mountains and level cities, that's what he was supposed to be. Some call them demi-gods, all Tyr sees is a poor excuse for a parent. Time had made him bitter, cruel, and arguably psychotic - seeing only enemies wherever he looks. They'd come for him, too, one day - to wipe the slate clean and make room for another - and it's his conviction to ensure that he dies while taking as many of those rats with him.
This is a story about finding acceptance, growth, and understanding - from the point of view of a cold and brutal individual who wears many masks. Of someone who was born to be the greatest emperor the eastern continent has ever seen - but he failed in that. Strong, yes, but only in the context of a man - Tyr's magic is weak. His convictions are weak. He has been made a beast of instinct by loss and a constant confronting of his own impotency in the face of his father.
A mythos that stretches across planes, of magic, a pantheon of cruel gods.
Of someone who's dedicated his entire mind to the art of killing a man, and none to living a normal childhood or coming to understand friendship, empathy, or compassion. The first five years of his life a mystery, a hole none have ever been willing to fill, leaving him warped and twisted. His formative years gone and what must've been most of his humanity along with it. Now 17, he is on the cusp of leaving the city he'd never been permitted to leave for what might be the first time in his life. Always searching, though he won't know what for, for some time.
An episodic that follows experience and symbolism rather than a never ending series of battles - where the conflict lay in constantly searching for wholeness in lieu of great villains or heroes. This is where it all started, the origin, the tale told a million times - and yet it hadn't been, 'reality' is tricky like that. The greatest lie ever told by the tongue that speaks is that any of this was real at all.

- SR FauthRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Let me just preface this review by saying this: This story hits home. I love the nitty gritty savage northern MC's who come down into civilised lands to kick ass, take names, and steal damsels. With that being said ... let us begin.
- WARNING SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW -
STYLE SCORE: The style, descriptive processes, and character and world overview are excellent. There are a few errors that confuse some of these aspects, particularily with grammer or some paragraphs needing a bit of restructuring. Overall the setting is beautiful, savage, and fulfilling.
STORY SCORE: The story starts out pretty mundane. Not going to lie. Savage visious prince kills and fucks his way through life. He has vices. These feed into the tale of vengance, woe, and not giving a shit about anyone but himself. I will say this now, and a few more times at least, this is a savage story about a man who gives no fucks on the path to vengeance.
GRAMMER SCORE: There are some small grammer issues that stuck out, even to a thick numbskull like me. I would recommend having a proof reader go through and fix some of the things that I had found, and maybe give some feedback on some of those early paragraphs. They were a tad rough. Gods above only know that I come no where near to catching all me own errors though. If you find a magical Grammar Hammer please, I beg you, beat me to death with it.
CHARACTER SCORE: I was amazing at the depth of feeling, rage, and non-chelance from the MC. Dont get me wrong. He is very, and I mean very well put together. Its everyone else so far that has frustrated me a bit. All the early characters who died made it feel very Games of Thrones, but without any feeling. They gont brief descriptors of how important they were then BAM, they were gone. It lift a hole. Right in the feels.
OVERALL SCORE: Five stars bro. A bit of STYLE, GRAMMER, and CHARACTER, but it is too well put together for me not to rate it at that. I dont feel like any of the things I listed above impact the stor - Saher AssiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story caught me off guard, in a very good way.The writing is sharp and entertaining, the characters are fun, and the humor and humanity are real. Couldn't be happier to have stumbled across this one.5 stars all the way one for the best stories I ever read most-certainly deserves them.
Thanks for this novel - Gargantuan6Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0If there is any element of story writing where this author shines, I would say it's world building. This book doesn't really keep to a single theme, at 1st it was really dark, and then it got a little brighter. That was kind of a weird adjustment for me, but I wouldn't say it's bad.
The characters are all colorful, and interesting perit's an interesting. I really like some of the comedy bits some of the comedy bits, because it's not just comedy or filler it actually serves to forward the story heard the story.
You know, because of all the cultural influences, I'd almost call this a Avatar: The Last Airbender Yeah type story, that's set in a darker universe. Most of it is expertly written, from the perspective of the perspective of the main character, Emma which I don't find all that common. A lot of writers take the time to add a lot of exposition needlessly that totally jars me from the story. Whereas this story kind of eases you into it.
Pacing wise, I definitely say that I'm not bored of the story, but. It does go a little slow at times, but I wouldn't say that's any part of the story that I find disinteresting, it's just that it certainly doesn't rush to a punch line. It doesn't follow the conventional rules of storywriting in my opinion. I definitely say that I like it, I like the universe that the author has built, and I can't Wait to see where the author goes with it next. I'll definitely be reading further.
Picture a blend between ATLA And a dark fantasy universe, it's like in the mind of the main character, everything is brighter, but the tone changes based on as mood, which I think is pretty interesting. It doesn't just stick to one theme and I find myself liking that quite a bit. Keep up the good work author. - Connordavis88Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Where to begin indeed... I have had the pleasure of speaking to this author via another platform and getting to know him. Eventually connecting with him on discord. I dont usually use RR, im more of a kindle guy myself. I was able to get my hands on up to chapter 305 and I am stunned. Anways...
Actual review:
I remember reading an article about RR and how another fairly big author (Zogarth) critiqued the fact that everything not LitRPG isnt successful. I think I understand that now.
This novel takes good care to develop an actual universe. Which is rare. It stays consistent enough to build real lore and the references are extensive. The author has even gone so far as to make a subtle nod that his system is total BS. Contrived as most are. Knocks himself throughout the book, and I find myself laughing so much even though this isnt a comedy.
Sometimes, it does jump around a bit. It did I feel like this is intentional though, rather than a lacking talent from the author. Bread it starts off really dark, and then it gets into something that I might call….. bright fantasy or is it fantasy or however you'd like to call it it's not grim dark, it's definitely something else, something kind of unique in the genre honestly.
He does make a subtle nod towards lit RPG mechanics, but it's like it's coming from somewhere or someone that has no idea what these things are, and I think that's pretty creative. The characters are well written and developed they change pretty consistently over the story. And I find that I like them
My only complaint overall is that I feel like he tries to do too much, I don't feel like it negatively impacts the story, but sometimes I wish that he would would… My only complaint overall is that I feel like he tries to do too much, I don't feel like it negatively impacts the story, but sometimes I wish that he would would… I'll say get to the point. I don't think the story drones on, there is some filler but I feel like it all serves a purpose - lanZeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really love it so far.
I know he's setting up some big reveal in the future but damn its sometimes kinda frustrating how Tyr keeps forgetting things.
I mean i get that there's a reason behind it but he just keeps finding a new teacher and keeps learning things but still fails at solving any of his (immediate) problems (mainly that he's dying). It's a lot of setup son far and I hope the author ties it together nicely.
There are a lot of references to different stories and he breaks the fourth wall sometimes. It kinda takes the immersion away from me but its still really enjoyable.
I might have complained a lot in this review but I still think it's way above Royal Road average and deserves similar attention the stories at the front page!
Amazing work author! - Cain_AbelRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It has good, lengthy chapters. A lot of dialogue is wrapped up in thoughts and descriptions, which is good, but can feel like filler at times. But that could just be my pacing preference. Overall, I like the story, I find the characters fun to read and the worldbuilding is intriguing.
- JxddyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I liked it. Plain and simple. The world-building, the plot, the character, and the whole vibe of the story.
If I had a complaint, it would be the Mc. That motherf**ker is too fucking emo.
I mean he can't just accept it when things are going well for him. Nope, the guy needs to make life harder for himself. Also, the guy needs to take a breather and listen to what is going on around him.
Still, I've grown fond of him somehow, waiting to see where he'll end up. - LessfRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This book is annoying. At times it hard to understand what exactly is going on. The book saving grace is that there so many chapters n its semi adult. The book at first gave me the impression of writing from Joe Ambercombie starts off with the character swaggering down the street saying the women want have sex with him and he loves to fight. Then it switches to him being a forever virgin with daddy issues. Then he never get out of his way from there. Here a insert thats basically sums up the book
[Spoiler]
Tyr was thick with the stench of self loathing and he well knew that the boy had a 24/7 pity party dancing in his head. It sickened him. Not because he looked down on the child, but because people that young shouldn't possess that level of raw bitterness.
I still been reading the book on and off. Its gets better but at times feels a lot of self loathing. Don't make you feel good. But all genres are needed. After thinking hard on it I definitely can see how this can be appealing maybe with a good editor a underground hit if marketed right. - Slvl710Royal Road★★★ 3.0till about the academy it was a 4/5, after it seemed like the author decided to make it a "expeimental" story, the same thing that ruined the arcane emperor.....they have an entire unexplored planet for the MC, but feel the need to bring in the multiverse crutch
I probably skimmed 80% of the story and at no point was I lost at what was happening, thats not good story telling, it means our time is being wasted
