Dark Magus (LitRPG Fantasy Adventure)
Community Rating
Description
Dark Magus is a fun and humorous adventure with some LitRPG elements like stat boxes, classes, loot, and a boatload of magic. There will be dungeons, progression, magical theory and more than a couple mysteries.
After being cast out of his home, and removed from his office as Arch-Magus of the Queen, Olivander Casumus searches for a new direction to take his life. A chance encounter with a young man failing the most basic of guild contracts leads him to a new adventure, just when he thought he had seen it all.
Gregory of Demering is an aspiring guild member with his sights set on Gold rank. He wants to be a powerful knight, capable and trustworthy. The only problem is that the first Class he earned was "Coward." When he meets Olivander while out on a guild contract, the crutch he has leaned on for years literally burns away, and he's catapulted into a new adventure.
Cooper is a dog who just can't help but find awful places to fall asleep. With a life dedicated to chasing balls, napping, and begging people for food, he's surprised to suddenly be dragged along on an adventure with two humans, who, as far as he can tell, don't realize he's just a dog.

- malinizgeldiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed reading very much. Let's move on to the reasons.
First of all, all of our characters have independent personalities. The things they do and say are things done within their character.
The background story and story of the novel are great. It pulls you in and makes you read completely. I admire olivender, his writing style and personality are perfectly captured. So you find yourself thinking about things about him, you build conspiracy theories. and you want things that will benefit him.
I love royal road. This site contains excellent novels. Language and style are used wonderfully in the novel. I've never had a problem with reading. I also saw that world-building did not leave any questions in your mind, and if it did, these questions were gradually answered in the future.
Summary of everything, read the novel. This novel will pull you in. - RyanTMRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you're still not sure, this book is a must read. The writing flows effortlessly and each paragraph feels well crafted.
The characters feel alive and believable, with the main cast of protagonists being intricately balanced.
Snatches of world building bring the litrpg genre to life in ways that will satisfy readers of all types. All things considered, this book should be at the top of everyone's to-read list!
As soon as I figure out how to link books to author notes, this one is going on my next chapter! - SqwakerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall a story with funny moments and slower pacing, while following the adventurous life of a ex-Arch-Magus, his wayward disciple, and a dog.
This story was really a enjoyable read, and I can definitely attest to the "fun and humorous" aspect. Overall, this story follows Olivander, exiled Arch-Magus, researcher of all things magical, and likely one of the most power people in the setting's kingdom. Despite his power, however, his character is designed in a way that allows for plently of growth and further insights, while having an eccentric personality that captures the reader's attention. The occasional interlude or adventuring quest is also quite interesting, alongside the author's knack for creating a range of surprising characters—including that of a literal dog and 'racoon from hell'; the magic system is also pretty interesting, alongside a well balanced dose of the author's attention to detail.
Style: Written very well, with humorous dialogue and in-depth characters. Sentences are coherently structured and flow seamlessly. Note the ocassional pov switches between the main cast, while maintaining reader attention and developing the plot and fleshing out the character.
Grammar: Flawless grammar without any noticeable flaws.
Story: As of the latest chapter, although the story is developing, with many promising plot implications, it is still very open-ended. There haven't been many notably plot events, while the main goal so far is essentially that of 'traveling', or adventuring. As of the latest couple chapters, however, there have been some pretty promising plot developements, following a decent amount of prior foreshadowing. - TrippylandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you're looking for a fun story to read this is a great one! I have been enjoying this since i started and will continue to read it whenever i have the chance to.
Story - I gave this a 5 star because so far I find it interesting. The story has its own flow compared to others i have read. Not only that I find it easy to follow along and understand. The character are relatable and work for the story too.
Character - I gave this a 5 star due to how relatable I find the story. I know a few people who would act like the characters in this Story. Olivander and Gregory are a great mix. The banter between them is hilarious at times and you can feel the liveliness in them.
Grammar - i gave this a 4.5 Star because no matter how hard you try to make it perfect there will be minor flaws. The grammar flaws aren't that bad and are few which is great compared to most stories i have read.
Overall - I give this a 5 star because I simply find this story great so far. Not many stories keep my attention now a days so it is great to find one that does and isn't so high up so far. I really feel like this is a gem hidden so far. I see great potential with this story and look forward to continue reading it. - drandreasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like the action. I like the snark. There is a great plot and continuing mystery. Good slow world building. Great story overall. The only thing is that it has lots of things that makes it good but in a narrow category. If you like the genre and snark and multiple characters you will probably like it. If you are looking for romance or lots of litRPG or hard progression or a focused main character this is probably not for you. I liked it. Give it a shot.

I really like this, you set the stakes pretty well right out the gate with the Wyrm’s attacking the and killing local livestock.
Story
It’s really well paced so far, I was interested to move from chapter to chapter, without a big break. I enjoyed the banter between Oli and Greg straight away too, they’re fun and it shows.
Style
Very easy to read, flows well from one to another with nothing jarring, the stat boxes are informative without being too much. And its nice to see the quests pop up as they do too, and the other info that we’re looking at.
There are some spots I’d like more details. More sensory feelings. So, anything that is around food, or something we can smell, give us a bit more. If you’re putting clothes on, how do they feel. Armor is it cold or warm? There’s a fair bit we can do to immerse ourselves in other worlds, and these really matter, just the odd one now and then helps a ton.
Grammar
I can’t really comment here, it wasn’t hard to read and I didn’t notice anything missing or off. I tend to almost read aloud as I follow on, (audio job) and this was good enough for me. The dialogue was tagged well enough when it was needed.
Characters
Oli and Greg have the best banter, but I also liked it when there were goblins coming in and this gave them. Fezzic was interesting, he felt fleshed out enough that I wanted to see what happened with him and how he could help our two friends.
Closing
All in, this is an awesome start to what looks like it will be a great adventure for Oli and his new friends. I think they’re going to learn and grow a lot, together, and can see lots of fun along the way. Thanks for letting me escape a bit - Christian DeMoranvilleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story, complex characters, funny MC combo. Ive reread it twice and it has definite layers. The downside is it hasnt been continued in a year. Disappointing that it wasnt advanced. It may never be and that seems to be the fate of too many good stories that have potential.
- PunpopeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Dark Magus weaves a delightful tale of redemption, unlikely friendships, and newfound purpose. As Olivander and Gregory set out on an unexpected journey, their evolving dynamic is both heartwarming and humorous. The inclusion of Cooper, the unwitting dog companion, adds a unique charm to this fantasy adventure. A refreshing and engaging read that explores the power of transformation and unity."
- RivoCarnelianRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this story, and I hope the author finishes it!
The characters:
Olivander is powerful (but rarely comes across as over-powered) but this is balanced with his shortcomings when it comes to interacting with others. He may sometimes be condescending, and at other times remarkably socially inept, but his heart always seems to be in the right place
Gregory starts off as somewhat helpless and naive, but under Olivander's occasionally callous guidance quickly becomes a competent hero, especially when working in Tandem with Cooper
Cooper's shrewder street smarts are the perfect foil for Gregory and the two make a very effective team.
The other characters all feel pretty distinct too. - K.A.ORoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall: Your work is quite good, it shows even this early into it. It kept me wanting to read more. It's pretty impressive, well done. I look forward to reading future chapters, I have to see where Olivander ends up and what shenanigans he gets up to.
Style: Your writing style allows for a smooth read, with an adequate pace that doesn't feel rushed or purposefully slowed down. The writing stays coherent and cohesive from chapter to chapter, which all adds up to an easy read.
Story: While you have yourself a wonderful tale, with a bit of worldbuilding. I'd personally like to experience more of the world you have created. Even if it's just in little tidbits here and there.
Grammar: Aside from a few minor errors and some dialogue that read a little weird to me, your grammar is pretty good. The few things I did notice don't really detract from the overall story all that much.
Character: Your characters are nicely fleshed out, a bit more might be nice though. A deeper look into the motivation behind their actions. Maybe a little more background info on why Olivander is no longer the Arch Magus, or a little more detail about Gregory and his desire to follow in his Fathers path. Your character interactions are top-notch. I really enjoyed the banter between Olivander and Gregory.
