Description
Millenia passed, and the dominance of spellcasters in the theater of war was absolute. A coven of witches bringing down entire legions with hulking blasts of energy. Fleets of ships being wiped out by rippling waves conjured up by sirens. When a Shaman called, forests transformed into indomitable fortresses, war was a playground for magical power plays. But as nightmarish engines of death roared to life and airships filled the skies, warring nations yearned to showcase their newfound weapons and see how they would reshape the battlefield. The might of magic and mythical creatures began to be challenged by the unrelenting force of industrialization and invention. It is a time of instability as armies rally for a new type of combat that will rewrite the rules of battle forever. Millian, a young novice, struggles to survive on the front lines, knowing all too well that progress is yearning for his blood.

- MeowmuraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is my first review so reader beware. I can't say much about the story since it is at the start, but it is really promising and I like what I've read till now. I like the vibe that the story has set with the first chapters and synopsis and I hope it continues to like this. It seems to be slower-paced which I like but again it's hard to say yet. I like how it isn't explaining everything to the reader and it seems to be really taking show don't tell to heart. It feels like I'm seeing a character's story happen and not being told how it happens, which I like.
So all and all, I've enjoyed what I've seen thus far and I'm excited to see where it goes. - destrebetxdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found that novel randomly, and it's pretty promising so far.
I like the genre of fantasy, and the description of the people and the feelings that the characters feel is pretty accurate.
I'm actually pretty excited about how it will go.
Furthermore, I hope the author will soon release more chapters. - Ronathan02Royal Road★★★★ 3.5Dance with Lady Death has a really interesting premise, and depicts the intensity and brutality of war excellently. There are aspects of the story I wish were expanded on a bit more though, so 7 chapters in I feel like it's left more to be desired.
STYLE: I love the descriptions of the battlefield, vehicles and the war time scenes. It evokes World War 2 imagery without being cheesy about it. Chapters are pretty short, which I don't see as an issue necessarily but I can see it turning some readers off who like meatier chapters.
GRAMMAR: I didn't notice any spelling errors or odd sentences while reading, which is good! The only issue I noticed was that the formatting in Chapter 6 was different from the rest of the chapters.
STORY: I really like the mix of gritty engines of war and guns and soldiers mixed with magic, wizards and fantasy elements. So far the lore is minimal, but I'm okay with that since it's still early on. My main issue is the lack of a real introduction to ground the story and establish setting, character and stakes. Several chapters feel like they could be combined into one chunky part of the story.
CHARACTER: Like my complaint above, the lack of a real introduction makes the characters feel one note so far. When the characters were put in danger it was way too early for me to care, I didn't know them well enough. I think this story really needs some kind of flashback to establish who this wizard is, and get the readers attached to him more.
Overall I think the first 7 chapters are okay. The writing is strong, but the story moves so quick that plot beats didn't impact the way I imagine the writer wanted them to. Still, the descriptions are vivid and characterization is sewn into the body language of characters really well. I can see the story getting a lot better as it goes along!
