Description
Dragons were the apex predators of the magical world, feared for their strength and intelligence. They stood at the pinnacle of creation, until mankind fueled by fear and envy banded together and struck them down as the greatest threat to the continued existence of their kingdoms. Peace reigned for many years across the continent, until an accident in the Magocracy of Ken turned one of the most powerful mage lords into a power mad lich. Raising an undead army and creating a cult that worshipped him like a god, he cut a bloody swath across the continent in a bid to create his own domain.
A great alliance consisting of the Kingdom of Light, the Magocracy of Ken, the Forest Kingdom of the Elves, the Mountain Kingdom of the Dwarves, and the Wild Tribes of the West rose up and the high lich was defeated, his armies destroyed, and his cult scattered. Still recovering, the world is a constant state of petty power struggles and back biting between nations. Border disputes are common and the constant fighting has taken a toll on the populations of all the nations.
Of course, none of this has much bearing on the everyday life of a an ordinary young orphan in the care of a Temple run home. Or does it?

A great story so far. This one is as far as I can see the normal hero’s journey type adventure with the upcoming evil evil bad guy returning from their supposed defeat to face the new generation of youths.
It begins with that “you have no talent for magic” plot of the “but then you do magic anyway” variety. After a spiritual rebirth of course. The story isn’t very developed thus far but it is going places. What places it is going only the author can pretend to know. The best part of the story is the characters as the MC is a real woobie. The war-time society feels as genuine as any other book I’ve read of such things.
The flaws I feel are most distinct in the fights and confrontations. The fights feel a little choreographed and more as a series of planned events than a natural dynamic between characters. I can tell mostly because it goves that feel that the characyers can waste as much time as they want between “turns” and whatever they do won’t affect the surprise of the next assualt. There is a lack of weight between exchanges, as if they are more based off of a childs whimsical arguments than a real-world gritty conflict. It isn’t all that bad to read though. The real worst part is the bland exposition that is dumped on some of the first chapter which always puts some people off.
overall, it is a good read and I enjoyed it. The plot isn’t really going anywhere new but the characters are put in some intriguing situations, and there are some compelling concerns for how they will move theough their war-time soceity facing off the two certainties of Death and Taxes. - uavgasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great story, and I am loving the story so far (as of ch. 16 - Omens). There has been much thought put into the characters and world, and I find the characters believable. It is easy to get engrossed in the story and start sympathizing with the characters, especially Rosalyn and Serena.
I also find the author’s grammar to be really good, much better than the average of this website (not a difficult achievement, I assure you). Also, the author’s sense of diction is superb. I find it extremely gratifying to see someone write using vocabulary meant for more than your average, middle school student. How many people actually remember that a group of eggs laid by a reptile is called a clutch, or that a darning needle is actually a thing and what it is used for?
I would recommend this story to anyone looking for a well-written, coming-of-age fantasy. - frealzillaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I really like the story it has an endearing main character and so far the start of some good world building and im always a bit of a fan of elves that are dicks ever since i read the deathgate cycle by Margaret weis. it has a fairly slowish release pace though. And I'll admit im a sucker for a halfling monk side character.
- BoredBeyondBeliefRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Story is interesting if you ignore the fact that the main MC isn't some cool dinosaur or lizard, the title and image clickbaited me.
