Cursed [A Weak to Strong Isekai LitRPG]
Community Rating
Description
Without any warning, I was transported from my sinking car into the Tower, a realm with magic, monsters, and a universal System. However, even though I was thrust into this dangerous new life, for the first time ever, I finally feel free. There are no gods to guide me, no cheat skills. I need to train, slay monsters and build a deck of spell cards to defeat the first floor boss and ascend to the second floor. What waits for me there, nobody knows, but one thing is for sure, I'll claw my way all the way to the top and do what ever it takes to get there.

- AzureWhaleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0World-building is very well done, blending nicely into the story without being at all tedious. Characters are interesting, and their actions are not predictable. And they are clearly individuals, each having their own motivations and personalities. Has a very nice "What the heck is actually going on?" vibe. I'm very much looking forward to what happens next.
- MilcRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A man once said there were known knowns, known unknowns and unknown unknowns. While his ability to construct an English sentence leaves something to be desired I have to conclude that he had a point about "unknown unknowns".
Little did I realise that one of the "unknown unknowns" in my life was the joy of a grimdark/isekai/deck builder/tower climbing story.
Now Milc you handsome devil, I hear you say, surely that's too much? Any two, perhaps even three of those genres can be blended into a fine story no doubt. But all four? Dearest, most wise Milc have you started on the whisky early today?
No I have not. It's a really good story.
There are a few minor niggles:
The very rare typo that slipped past the editing process. no worries.
The stat sheet not being bolded or blue boxed (purely an aesthetic issue for me, it is clear when it switches to the stat page info).
I want to know more about Simon from Chapter 1.
That's about it. Nothing to warrant knocking off even half a star. Really glad I've read this and I'll be following it as it goes forward. - OmegareavenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This was my first time reading a book about deckbuilding. I had always heard they were very fun and cool systems, and I can honestly say those words were correct.
I really liked the imagery used with reference to the vine upon the main character. As the story went on, it was very easy to visualize what was happening in that particular area.
I thought the MC was a decent balance of headstrong and careful, making his choices feel a bit more organic. Flint is also a great side character who matches the drive of our MC. - UgarrsvenothRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I haven't read much in the way of deckbuilding, but I regularly read litRPGs and isekais, so I'm not completely unfamiliar with this type of story.
With that out of the way, I find the world to be pretty decent. Of course, at this point in time we haven't left the village and we haven't experienced what the rest of the tower is like, but the author does a good job of building up the world beyond the MC's secluded little village.
The MC is pretty good, knows that he doesn't really fit in to this world, but is trying his best to help.
I'm curious to learn more about his powers, it'll be nice to follow a curse/summoner build over the usual magic swordsman archetype.
Keep up the good work. - FaercesRoyal Road★ 1.0The first two chapters try to do interesting things as a way to make us root for our character, but the dialogue, descriptions of the world, character interactions, and flow just don't work in it's favour. It tries to develop a sob story as the background but fails to ring any emotional bell and falls flat on it's face, reading like more of an excuse to justify the unbelievable and unrealistic things that happen directly to the main character afterwards for the sake of progression.
Character interactions feel one dimensional and scriptlike, with no depth or any other meaning to be parsed from when a conversation or observation occurs. What we see on the page is exactly what we get. No matter that some side characters exist for the sole purpose of dying to progress the plot, it's just unbelievable with the amount of depth given to this world.
The action scenes are written quite well though, with much of the better writing coming from those high intensity moments with the first person perspective really working in it's favour there.
All in all, this is a traditional and uninspired isekai litRPG on this site that fans of broken MC progression will enjoy, although it doesn't really do much to show that it's better than others.
