Crystallization

The world as humanity knew it ended two hundred years ago, when an alien colony ship showed up and spewed terraforming seeds all over the planet. It was later learned that it had been an accident. The peaceful aliens not having realized when they probed the planet millions of years ago, that any sapient life would be present on the world when they arrived.

The humans whose world had just been made toxic to them, however, didn't care if it had been an accident, and went to war with the invaders. Two hundred years after the war ended, what is left of humanity controlled the enemy ship. The ship that is the only reason they have survived on the toxic earth for so long.

Now, the dregs of humanity look up at the crystallin ship with longing. Only the rich and the lucky even have a chance of becoming crystalized; their frail human bodies being cast aside so they can enter the crystallin world inside the ship, or should they choose, to gain another body. One that can breathe earth’s toxic atmosphere, and contend with the invasive species that now rule the planet.

One man, by a stroke of either luck or misfortune, finds himself crystalized into the world of the powerful. Entering the ship was a dream come true, but the longer he stays in paradise, the more he realizes that things might not be as perfect up here as they seem.
