Description
One hundred million years ago, an unknown cataclysm rendered humanity extinct. After conquering seven galaxies and becoming a super-civilization, terrankind vanished from the cosmos. Time passed. Their animal descendants (Cats, dogs, and crocodiles, among others) all evolved and Uplifted themselves to become the new overlords of the Milky Way.
But the newly Uplifted were not ignorant of the past. How could they be? Countless records lay scattered among the stars of the ancient Precursor civilization which came before them. Their ancient facilities and installations dotted countless worlds. Their superweapons fell into the hands of the Uplifted, and countless wars followed.
Once the Uplifted established their empires, a tenuous peace followed. Finally, it seemed as if the old wounds had begun to heal, leaving only a cold war that stretched on for several centuries.
But what they didnotknow was that one human had survived. One last Terran, a super-soldier employed by the most powerful military humanity had ever conceived.
Jose Rodriguez awakens from stasis sleep to find himself alone, his entire species wiped from the universe.
He is the last living Terran.
He is the Last Precursor.
This story is a fully completed serial of about 350,000 words. It was originally completed in mid-2021, and has been significantly rewritten for the RR-release to be more concise and higher-impact.
The Cryoverse is aNobledarkuniverse. It features all sorts of Warhammer 40k moments, Deus Ex themes (Including vast conspiracies and plots and a cyberpunk feel), and big fights that are written to knock your socks off. - mantis42Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read the reddit version of this story from the release of its first chapter (or perhaps before, if you count the WIPs klok posted!) and I have to say it turned out splendidly. The story whets the reader's appetite for the larger cryoverse while simultaneously being self contained and capable of standing on its own. The ending in particular is some of the most high concept stuff I've seen in a serial. I won't spoil it, but it turns a common scifi trope on its head in a way I've never seen anyone do before.
The RR rewrite of this story is bound to be even better than the already excellent reddit serial. Klok went in like a fugu chef to trim and season the already lean story. There are cats, critters, characters you'll love, and to round it all up, a 9 foot tall cyborg super soldier! 100% give this a read (or two!) - FrigentusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Badass MC, cute kitty cats, fun, hi-tech weaponry, massive, mountain sized spaceships, menacing alien empires, a snarky A.I.!
TLP is full of things like these, and so much more! It's a wild ride from the very beginning! It has character development, dynamic, cool fight scenes (seriously I swear this author is an absolute GOD at creating fight scenes), and most of all, LORE!
The story has so much lore, lore lovers would like this piece of fiction, and well crafted foreshadowing exists in every corner. - MerkuryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The TLP was the first thing I read from Klokinator and I was instantly addicted to it.
The story has everything you could expect from hyper sci-fi tech to kittens and memorable moments.
The rewrite of TLP is even better than the original and can't wait to read all of it - Anurag AnandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been following the author since 2020 and the journey with his series has been amazing.
Don't read it in one day read it slowly preferably some chapters per day.
Don't judge it by reading only a few parts, wait until you finish the series and if needed re-read it only then pass the judgement.
Also follow his the series named as 'The Cryopod To Hell' on reddit, it is one of the most fascinating works i have read so far in my life.
The author is a brilliant Wordsmith. - BladesunderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I clicked on this by accident but what an amazing find. Incredible amount of lord and depth of characters, not just the MC. I find myself enjoying the side characters as much or more then the MC at times. Also, some of the best fight scenes I've read. I would encourage you give this gem a try!
- Darth KirtapRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Last Precursor is rewrite of story from reddit, where I read it for first time.
Style of writing is easy to read and quite unique by usage of present tense, which is almost unused in other RR stories.
Story itself is interesting, with a lot of action and great world building. It is also well thought through with ending in mind from beginning. Thanks to this, story have decent pacing and direction as well as many Chekhov's guns.
Each character is well written. They have each their own unique traits and personality and their morality is beyond simple good and evil. Most of characters are from their POV in right to do what they do.
MC is not perfect, he have his own set of flaws and is capable of making mistakes. He wents through interesting development.
Sci-fi elements are well explained and properly used afterwards, not forgotten as is common in many other stories.
I have not seen any issue with grammar, which is quite rare on RoyalRoad.
To sum up, The Last Precursor is great choise for your reading, no matter if you like sci-fi or fantasy. I can only recommend you to give it a try. - DeeTaffRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In the far future, when humanity and their technology have all but vanished into history. It is revealed that the story's "hero", José Rodriguez, was maintained in hibernation and was awakened by a helpful AI.
The plot follows José Rodriguez as he contends with being the last of his kind while experiencing adventures and tribulations in a world that is both familiar and unfamiliar. He meets both new and old friends and foes while demonstrating the strength of mankind in this new universe.
This story is a remake of the original TLP that was posted on Reddit, so it is incredibly well-written and polished, with a rich backstory and emotionally complex characters. I adore TLP and all of the author's previous books, including The Cryopod to Hell (which is set several millenia before TLP), and I definitely recommend reading this book if you like sci-fi, heartwarming relationships, characters you'll love to hate and then love to love, or just a wonderful narrative. This story is a well-rounded adventure with everything you could ask for and more! A deep mystery in the back, alien empires and wars, rich and violent battle scenes, the growth of friendship and allies! Each chapter will leave you itching for more, and the next will always satisfy!
Great story written by a great wordsmith! - SephereenRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Very interesting story, very well written. The beginning reminded me of Song of the Void by Vihyungrang.
Loved the overall mystery about what happened to humanity. Totally expected some kind of hyperspace-machine-race as a final adversary. Wanting answers to this mystery also had be binch-read the whole story in one go.
The writing is pretty good, the characters are believable, especially the Main Character. Having an almost-invincible super-soldier with far superior technology, one would assume that he stays OP over the entire story. Not so. He can still be surprised and he can run into situations where he can be overwhelmed and hurt, maybe even killed. He also wants to protect his new crew, who are decidedly less powerful.
The story revolves around the Main Character and what happens to him and around him. The story contains very well written intrigue and betrayal, usually because of greed. Some of that the reader wont see coming until it is way too late, same as the Main Character. It makes the story all the more believable and entertaining to read.
The story turns very grimdark at the end, but there are many reasons for that. The ending contains the reasons and explanations about how and why things happened, and might make the reader overlook some of the darker elements of the story, and is very satisfying to read.
I rather like comedic and uplifting stories, but can't hold my personal preference against the story development. - Ap0c4L1PS1SRoyal Road★★ 2.0The author can't deal with constructive criticisms.
For example, he writes that the lizards got a intelligence rating of 0.9 slightly below a human, not even 5 chapters later he forgets about it and if someone points it out he gets really abrasive about it.
The story is full of random high numbers without any thought about how unrealistic they are.
There is no objetive 10 chapters into the story, a good story must have a objetive and obstacle to create tension.
This story doesn't have a objetive or a obstacle to surpass, so it is rather bland. - BuRtRoyal Road★★ 2.0The author tells us we must read to the last chapter to "understand" the story and then we will rate it five stars. But what's the point with that if you don't enjoy the journey.. All in all I see no reason to spend my time on this, with the diffuse promise that the end changes everything.
