- A. PeakRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Before writing this review, I saw the author's note saying that it's his/her first time writing a story so that played a part on this review
First of all, the one thing I like the most here is the MC. His character is the most interesting one so far. He's a prodigy in fighting which is easily a cliche but I don't mind it that much but I can say he's actually smart too so it's okay not have a character who uses brute force alone especially the MC's goal was actually hinted to be big. Speaking of the MC's goal, I like that MC's unrevealed past may actually play a part on MC's goal. So for 11 chapters, I think MC is the only interesting character but I look forward to his dynamics with Officer Zed.
For grammar, I can see some words that may confuse the reader but the author is inexperience so his/her vocabulary may not be that good but I hope the author will try to improve himself/herself.
I also liked that the story isn't meant on revenge alone if you've actually read up to the latest, the MC is looking at a big picture and I'm interested to see the execution of the author about the MC's goal.
Overall, this is an average story but actually has potential if written well since the story's setting is an interesting one. - D.J. RintoulRoyal Road★★ 2.0This is a revenge story, and I like that sub-genre of martial arts fiction (and revenge stories in general).
But the story is thin thus far, and the details we have gotten are cliched. Main character wants revenge for probably one of the top 2 or 3 reasons why MC would want revenge in stories like this. We don't even get the juicy flashback details of the actual phenomenon that inspired his rage yet. It's just a vague description of an incident. Maybe that's to conceal a twist later, but we still need more detail than we actually got, I think.
MC is also a prodigy, naturally. Okay, that's fine, albeit that protagonists seem to always be prodigies eventually, so it's another way in which this feels indistinct from other stories. But if we're doing those cliches, MC needs to be more interesting than just that, and we haven't gotten much personal detail from the chapters released so far. MC seems to like fighting, but it's not clear if that's just motivated by his larger purpose or a real enjoyment, because we have so little character development thus far.
The style and grammar are what make this a pass for me. There are tense agreement issues, quotation marks used to indicate both dialogue and thought, which is occasionally confusing, and unfortunately, most of the dialogue and even the internal monologues feel very cliched. The style doesn't allow for these characters to have distinct personalities as represented by dialogue. It feels like their exchanges and thoughts could have been ripped out of any revenge anime or martial arts movie.
