- CaelumThyzeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story. A hidden treasure on Royal Road.
The characters are interesting and the writing is better than the average on Royal Road.
The world the author creates feels alive and you want to spend more time in it!
No paragraphs of lore dump and bad dialogue.
I hope the author finds the success he deserves! - Deep In SinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0WARNING: Do not read near bedtime.
This is one of those fics so good that it makes you binge read it all night.
You won't regret it.
Honestly, I came to rag on Ruthfus, but stayed for the quality content.
The way that different narratives intertwine is amazing. And there are things happening behind scene as much as on screen. Believable hints of deeper worldbuilding and all that.
The only downside is that it ends too soon. stops just as it reaches the thick of it, lots of loose ends or unexplained phenomena, but that's also a charm of a wider world viewed by a country-bumpkin, I guess. hopefully there is a next book soon. - JustCraigRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Blah blah blah, simple story about a baker who leaves home to start his own bakery. WRONG. This story is not about a baker. It’s about a kid who kills a cult leader, steals his signet ring, and uses it to infiltrate an underground criminal society. And that’s just the beginning.
The good part is in the second story arch when a guardsman gets pulled into investigating the underground world after a prank.
My original review was something along the lines of “This is a good fantasy that keeps getting better.” And that was before the author started slinging chapters for book 2!
This is a secret gem. It’s well written, well thought out, and has tons of intricate aspects that belie simplicity. Book 2 comes out of the gate immediately and starts hitting hard.
You can really tell that this author has some experience under his belt. When the characters talk to each other, it’s not generic; they are genuine connections that inspire real relational dynamics. I try to support authors that write well. Out of every 100 authors, there might be one or two of this caliber. I spent the credit and got it on audible. The narrator even sounds good.
TLDR: it’s good. - ReedweaverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Like @justcraig, I'm not much of a reviewer.
Like I said in the title the story is pretty simple. That said there are lots of witty scenes - especially the parts involving the soldiers.
I enjoyed the way the story progressed. I normally don't give reviews (if I can't give a story at least a 4, I don't bother) but I enjoyed this so much I decided to give one - SpinalmountmagneticacceleratorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wonderful characters and two engaging narratives, I'd happily read hundreds more chapters of this. Sometimes you read a story and you notice some characters have been simply included for plot reasons, or trope satisfaction. This story is not like that at all. I like the ending, I like the beginnings, and the detail in the world is tasteful and engaging. You could write another dozen stories with things which are mentioned, and the world has a lot of potential. All in all, fantastic fiction, the kind of thing I'd pay for in paperback.
- TheIronReignRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Binge read the entire book over the span of two days and thoroughly enjoyed every single post. The author has created a wonderfully compelling and complex story that is well paced and has well developed characters.
I really hope that there are plans to write and release a 2nd book. - UfyrRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Brings me back to my childhood where books smelled of adventure into a mysterious world. With none of those page long mc monologues or plotlines that take half a month to develop. Loved the character design and dialogue. You can see the standard archetypes, but they're done skillfully. Was a great read!
