- Lucian T. EinarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: Crimson Sun by Maude R. Masterson is a captivating and immersive sci-fi novel that expertly combines action, adventure, and political intrigue. The story follows Kara, who finds herself caught up in a complex conspiracy that threatens the stability of galactic powers. As Kara navigates multiple worlds and sinister plots, she must confront her own past and make difficult choices to protect herself and those she cares about.
Style: Masterson's writing style is engaging and fast-paced, keeping readers hooked from start to finish. The use of vivid descriptions immerses readers in the futuristic world of the story, while the dialogue is realistic and adds depth to the characters. The incorporation of different perspectives and timelines adds layers to the narrative, creating a sense of mystery and anticipation.
Story: The story of Crimson Sun is intricately woven, with a compelling blend of action, suspense, and political maneuvering. The author expertly builds tension throughout the novel, keeping readers guessing and on the edge of their seats. The exploration of different worlds and societies adds depth to the world-building and creates a rich backdrop for the characters' journeys. The plot twists and turns, keeping readers engaged and eager to uncover the truth behind the conspiracy.
Grammar: The grammar and punctuation in Crimson Sun are well-executed, allowing for a smooth and enjoyable reading experience. The author's attention to detail and careful editing ensure that the prose flows seamlessly, without distracting errors or inconsistencies, or at least, I didn't see anything grammatically wrong.
Character: The characters in Crimson Sun are well-developed and multi-dimensional, each with their own motivations and flaws. Kara is a strong and complex protagonist, driven by her past and her desire for survival. The supporting characters, such as Farsa and the other members of the Iridian society, add depth to the story and provide a diverse range of perspec - OxbutcherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall 5/5
It is a great sci-fi idea that feels vast and intriguing. A very interesting idea is to catch us up to speed with the prologue which encompasses all the major events. Overall, it is a good written prose and a promising story that can grip all the sci-fi fans.
Style 5/5
It is a very easy-to-read and comprehensive novel. The constant build-up is always supported by the lore drops of info, and I like that the author added many visuals to complete the narrative.
Story 5/5
We slowly learn about our main character and are introduced into the world together with her. That builds a compelling storyline supported by PoV and the character's knowledge allowing us to slowly unveil the whole scenario.
Grammar 5/5
Nothing to note. The writing is immersive and very easy to follow. I might have spotted one typo reading from my phone, but nothing greater than that.
Character 5/5
The characters in this story are developed slowly and thoroughly. I understand the ideas driving them and I find them easy to follow. There is no point in this story where you would wonder why the cast is doing one thing or another and this builds a good final picture. - DweiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a well written story that features hard Sci-Fi elements, grounded in real science. You won't find any handwavy technomagic that breaks the rules of physics. I can tell with certainly that the author has put a lot of thought and effort in making sure the science fiction elements of the story make sense, are consistant, and most importantly, are not breaking the rules of reality.
Style: The author utilises a rich vocabulary, and avoids repetition of words and phrases. Overall, I enjoyed the style of writing very much, though the swap between past and present tense in some situations did pull me out of the story a little. It may not be suitable to everyone's tastes, but I do suggest giving it a try before deciding whether its for you or not.
Grammar: I found no grammatical errors, though it is possible I missed them if there are any. Overall, the grammar, word choices, sentence structure etc make for an enjoyable read. The author's use of the English language is quite deliberate.
Story: It's exciting, invokes curiosity, and makes me want to read more. The pacing is quite well. It has a good amount of tension, action, and quiet moments.
Characters: They are written quite well most of the time, but some of the dialogue felt somewhat artifical. At times, I felt they spoke too perfectly - unrealistic for the situation they were in.
Overall, Crimson Sun is a very well written and interesting piece. Anyone who likes hard sci-fi should give it a try. And as a bonus, the author has lore entires along with images that represent them, which makes imagining these characters and races much more easily.
