- TheScribeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’m pretty new to Isekai type stories, but this was a very interesting read. I’ll start with what I liked.
Story-wise, I love the premise. There’s a depth to the idea of ‘Creation’ as a power that the author has clearly thought out, and it provides a very solid foundation for the story itself. There’s a world with substance, doled out in portions, and a main character, who, despite having some tropes attached, moves through it in a believable, interesting way, empowered by the choices implied by his power. There’s enough uniqueness to his personality and abilities to make him an interesting focal point for the story.
That being said, as some of the other commenters and reviewers have pointed out, it’s clear that English is the author’s second language. I’m not going to knock too many points off them for that; it’s very admirable to go to such pains to share a story with a new audience, and no doubt very daunting, too. It does mean, however, that both style and grammar are a little less polished, and this does undermine the strength of the premise, character, and story, either through slightly clunky, matter of fact descriptions or some unexplained transitions from first to third person, etc.
However, given that it’s clear to me that the author is taking a first step into the world of RR, I’m sure this will improve over time. Some extra polish and rhythm that will no doubt come with practice in English would build on the very solid foundation established here. I’m looking forward to seeing how the potential of the premise, character, and story can be realised keep it up! - keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay, strangely enough, the style is what I love about the story and, also, what I think detracts a little. Let me explain. First off, this is SUCH a fun read. It’s casual and light, and the style is extremely easy to read in a bubbly, up-beat stream-of-conscious-like fashion. It feels almost Manga-esque---like watching Anime in that everything (the character’s emotions, the plot) is ‘really good’ or ‘really bad’. Honestly, I loved the technique of the easy, flowing writing, but it, also, feels a little limited by it because it feels less “serious” than say a novel. If this is your vibe, though, forget all about it and read on happily. It is such a fun ride, and I found it a joy to read.
The plot centers around building a harem (although it is definately isekai as well). I’m not familiar with the genre but I liked the use of it, and I really enjoyed the main character. I was really pulling for him---hoping he came out on top.
There were no glaring grammatical errors or anything that stopped my enjoyment of the read. The language is so fun and casual that it makes it an easy read like I mentioned. Honestly, this one is capital F.U.N. It feels like a breath of fresh air. Well done to the author! - S.N. KeirsteadRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: The style of the story is different from what I am used to reading. There are some parts where the author's style deviants a bit too much from the norm that it had a little confused, but the majority of the story reads just fine after some getting used to. For example, the author will throw in a bit of second person here and there which can be a bit jarring, but is far from a deal breaker.
Grammar: There are a few typos here and there along with some peculiar choices for punctuation, but it doesn't ruin or hurt the story. It is still a very straightforward read throughout.
Story: Creation Records has a very "anime" feel to it. If you're a fan of anime/manga, you will understand the tropes and tones present. The world is also set in a Japan-inspired area, helping to further keep it set in further in that anime tone. The story itself contains a lot of reincarnation tropes accompanied with plenty of action to keep you going to the next chapter.
Characters: The characters are fun. They all have unique personalities and compliment each other well. Some might find that the MC isn't particularly original, but he compliments the story perfectly.
A definite recommend. - Authors DreadRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Alright, let's dive into the critique of: Creation Records by Kagenao.
The story begins with a classic trope of a boy reincarnated in another world, but with a twist. The protagonist, Kiryuin Asahi, is not just an ordinary boy but a 'chuunibyou' high school student. This makes him an interesting character from the get-go, as his delusions and fantasies from his previous life add a layer of complexity to his character. However, the author could have delved deeper into Asahi's 'chuunibyou' tendencies, as they seem to be brushed aside once he reincarnates.
In Chapter 1, "The New World," Asahi's transition from Earth to the new world, Celaen, is abrupt. While the shock factor is there, it could have been more impactful if the author had spent more time building up the tension and mystery around his death and reincarnation.
The story takes an interesting turn in Chapter 2, "The Continent of Oveigon," where Asahi learns about the history of his new world. The author does a commendable job of world-building here, providing a detailed backstory of the continent and its kingdoms. However, the information is presented in a rather dry, textbook-like manner. It would have been more engaging if the author had woven this information into the narrative, perhaps through a conversation or a story told by an elder.
Chapter 3, "Gushiken Imai," introduces a new character, Imai, who is Asahi's childhood friend. The interaction between Asahi and Imai is endearing and adds a touch of romance to the story. However, Imai's character could use more development. She seems to be there just to fulfill the role of a love interest, and her personality doesn't shine through.
One of the strengths of the story is the concept of 'Creation,' a power that Asahi regains from his forgotten past. The author does a good job of gradually revealing the extent of this power, keeping the readers intrigued. However, the execution of this concept could be improved. For instance, when Asahi creates a gun and a su - S.nufflesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Is this Royal Road or BookWalker???
Style: is highly specialised. It takes a lot of inspiration from light novels, meaning that if you're used to it and into that style, I'd say you'd find it interesting. However, for fans of more traditional novel styles (such as myself, although I love some light novels), it can be jarring. It is mostly personal, but it is a big factor, which is why I take off a star. Apart from this, I can recommend for those into the genre.
Grammar: has no major hiccups, and it is easy to understand. I can't fault the author there.
Story: is interesting. The worldbuilding is strong, and it is clear the author has thought a lot about this, however, I take half a star off for how often what should be background information is given straight up. The worldbuilding itself is solid, and the plot is shaping up to have potential.
Character: is interesting, as again it may suffer from the same issues as style for some people. They are very specialised towards the Light Novel genre, but for fans of that genre, I can see them being enjoyed.
Overall: I want to be isekai'd already PLEASE - GonoaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0For fans of the genre, this is a solid novel. Reincarnation, love interests, an OP MC and everything else an isekai needs. The language and style are also good, apart from the occasional very long sentence.
You'll encounter a pretty long info dump in the first chapter and the first half of the second. But even though I really don't like info dumps, I guess the author implemented it in an ok way. It introduces you into the world and it's history a little, giving you information to understand the story.
So to all isekai fans out there: I can recommend this story. - BullerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It has promise. I will give it that. Premise seems interesting enough. Characthers.... seem like they're consistent. I honestly had trouble with that last one after a while. Might just be my mind trying to make connections.
Now for the criticism. The author most likely has English as a second/third langaueu and that brings the troubles we all know and love. Tensing is pretty weird at points, wording of sentences are... something new. Not sure how to explain it, really. Read to find out.
