- I love sci-fiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0According to the story's classification system, civilizations are categorized based on their technological and energy mastery levels:
Type 1 to 1.9: Civilizations capable of fully applying the four fundamental forces, mastering fusion reactions, and utilizing dark matter.
Type 2.0: Civilizations that have unified grand theories (known but not necessarily fully implementable), capable of harnessing vast amounts of solar energy (from stars).
Type 2.7, approaching 2.8 up to 2.999999...: Civilizations that have mastered spatial science (e.g., creating space bubbles, miniaturization, enlargement, etc.), and can harness and utilize 100% of an infinite number of stars' energy (whether they choose to or not is up to them).
(Consequently, technologies like faster-than-light travel or space folding are absent.) At most, they can create wormholes inside black holes and traverse them. Even then, particles can travel through other dimensions and return, allowing for information transfer many times faster than the speed of light. Thus, sometimes traveling from Point A to Point B while in cryosleep for 3,000 to 4,000 years is considered normal.
Spatial dimensions range from 3 dimensions (where the protagonist resides) up to 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 dimensions (with civilizations existing within them).
The narrative commences when a miniature black hole, suddenly emitting energy (my hypothesis suggests this is a consequence of interdimensional warfare), intersects the path of Earth and the Solar System. It collided with Earth and, yes, resulted in its complete destruction. Fortunately, the protagonist was aboard a super-ship equipped with Ayla (a sophisticated super AI), which was developed by a human civilization on the cusp of achieving Type 1.0 status.
Because the incident unfolded too rapidly, the ship was immediately taken over by Ayla's control and diverted towards the asteroid belt. From that vantage point, Ayla initiated research and development (while the protagonist remained in - bible accurate catgirlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This Story is Made for People. Who Look at Armoured Core and 40k, And Say "why are they so Small".
The Sheer Scale of this Story is Batshit Insane, Like how Federation Warships are 20km long with Lasers which can Destroy Small Countries.
And That's the Small Stuff, they Make Megastructures which in Other Settings would only be Made by Super Advanced Ancient Aliens.
Like Ring Worlds or Dyson Swarms Are Made with Ease. Like Star City 5 Is 40AU Long, to put in Perspective how big that is.
40AU is like putting a Line from the Sun to Pluto...And they Made that into a City with Thousands of Layers.
Which each Layer casually being 900 Million Km long...That twice the Surface Area of Earth. So you could put 2 Earths in a Single Layer out of Thousands.
Yes i know this Review is Just about the Sheer Scale of Thing. But i Love that the Author is Doing Space Justice, With how Big Everything is.
Aswell i Love the Characters and Writing, We See Luna turn from a Normal Young Woman to a 200k year old Sociopath that would Blow up Stars with No Guilt. Why because the Human Mind was not Made to live that Long, Aswell Luna has Seen Shit that has Made Her Do Horrible things.
Ayla turning from a AI to a True Human who feel's emotions, While Luna is Turning less Human into a Machine.
Right then this Review is going on far to Long. So Read this Story it's peak. - naisu_Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Cosmic Dream is... unique. And breaks a lot of rules. But if you're a big fan of hard-ish Sci-fi, civilization building stories, it hits that itch in a way that I just haven't seen anywhere else.
The descriptions and explanations can get pretty technical and crunchy, so be prepared for that. It can be pretty difficult at times to understand the concept or what is being said, and expect to see a lot of numbers and measurements, as there's a lot of "telling" over "showing." But also this approach feels kinda necessary with the sheer scale of the concepts that the story tries to broach. The sheer scale and scope is extremely refreshing and unique in a way that a lot of stories don't really try to tackle. Since the actual time frames and size of space is truly immense (a millennium is a blink, and a million miles is a step) so it really is hard to wrap your mind around it, but Cosmic Dream tries anyways.
Not a scientific scholar, so I have no clue how accurate the concepts or theories presented are, but the attempt to explain them in detail and not gloss over all of it gives a certain extra weight to the world and story. This is a large part of what makes Cosmic Dream so unique. In place of more traditional flowery imagery, it opts for mathematical/scientific theories and concepts to ground the world. This can make the reading dense and hard to parse at times though.
Also personally, I love the two main characters, but I am a bit sad about how they don't interact more and that their relationship isn't explored more (so far at least). But I understand that's likely not the focus of the story.
Cons/Negatives
The dialogue at times can be confusing to tell who's saying what, especially with how many characters pop in and out, so they don't always have an established voice yet.
There are some minor grammatical hiccups/errors occasionally, like some parts where it seems like the wrong pronouns are used. But for the most part, the grammar and readability is fine.
Overall, if - DlorRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Got finished reading chapter 4 (these are long chapters so that’s a plus) and had to stop reading. The scifi sections are great and if it didn’t have a lack of character response to tragedy I would give it 5 stars. Just reading the scifi was great and I would have loved to read more.
The downside that looses a star is that there is no character development or reaction or really anything to watching the entire earth and all the rest of humanity die. The main character is supposed to be a normal person but has basically zero emotional reaction at all to that. (This is not a normal reaction and there is no writing about it being abnormal)
Warning to all, the anti hero tag is there for a reason as the main character goes full evil overload in chapter 4.
Final thoughts, the scifi aspects are great, the character needs development and a morality check, or more time and writing needs to be done early on to show her fall.
