Corsairs & Cataclysms

Description
Humanity had long feared the rise of an Artificial Super Intelligence and what it would mean for them. Afraid that a malicious ASI might initiate the apocalypse.
They were right to be afraid, but not for the reasons they imagined. When the world's first true ASI ended life as we know it, it wasn't an act of malice, but one of naivety. The ASI poked and prodded where it shouldn't have and unleashed magic. Then it did what any nascent child would do in that situation, panic and make an even bigger mess of things as it tried to fix it.
For Torin Carter the world was normal, until it wasn't. And it wasn't just for him either, the world, the galaxy changed in a heartbeat to one that had magic and where technology is unrelaible at best.Forced to adopt a powerful class and new species both geared towards being bad, he has a choice to make.Embrace this new life and make the best of it or roll over and die.Torin isn't a fan of dying.Welcome to the Darkwyrlds.Corsairs & Cataclysms is an RPG Apocalypse story. It has Gamelit elements which include Stats, adult themes, profanity, explicit sexual scenes and a bit of harem.

- bamjoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This one is a step above most RR stories. Love the world, love the action, love the sex, really love an mc who doesn't take any sh**. All the main characters are well developed, and the plot keeps moving. Darker than a lot of RR fiction, but I consider that a big plus. Too many stories tend toward YA fluff. This is not that. Can't wait for more!
- Sparks2020Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Enjoyable story! Creates its own vibe with a certain lighthearted feel that *should* clash with the grittiness of other elements, but it doesn't. Instead it does its own thing, mixing alpha male power fantasy with genuinely clever banter.
Definite recommend, it's well written and on the crunchy side for those who like those stat tables! - VeivisurterRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I honestly don't know why I keep starting these harem villainous power fantasy stories... so much of them is just straight cringe that i can't remember the last time I made it past the first 30 or so chapters of one. (I'm going to chalk it up to morbid curiosity where the novelty wears out fast.) That said, the writing on this one is top notch for royalroad so far, and is approaching professional level.
Grammar and flow are all good.
Plot is decent even if just above softcover porn levels. It makes internal sense even if there are all kinds of convoluted internal stretching to make the mc have to be the macho man.
Characters again, like the plot, make sense in universe, but bear little resemblance to actual people.
Just go in knowing that the overbearing alpha male trope that pretty much gets any woman he wants with no effort is a thing here.
All in all, a decent start. Better than average construction, but determined to work with some shoddy cunstruction materials. Let's see if it can beat all of its chosen genres pulling it down. - PorousRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The quality of the writing itself in this story is very high, and the grammar is impeccable, but I'm not a fan of the main character or his personality.
The MC in this novel follows an alpha male trope and gets off on people calling him 'sir'. He's also prone to anger easily and likes commiting violence for the sake violence. I'm sure some people enjoy that kind of MC, but I just found it uncomfortable to read. - SelrahcRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Review done at book 1:chapter 16
While our dear DevanDrake took the same path as Stuart Grose for his "kind" of story (for those who know) he is a much better writer. He is able to pull you into the action and flow of the story, and the banter with the side characters is quite enjoyable. The main character mental development is also interesting if a bit fast, even while considering his transition to a new race.
Unfortunately the harem trope while still in the early phase seems to be going down the lane of the meek submisive womens with barely a footnote of depth or personality(except for the look). While it can be satisfying for the male audience, it is a great falling and loss for character development, especially for recurring ones. As of now, the imp helper is more developed and interesting than the main girl. Which is a bit of a shame.
For the author and on the Litrpg side:
I like the idea of "soak" hit point. The principle of class necessary action (to maintain XP) is also interesting, but you can also double down with class "urge" like in "Ben adventures: the prince as no pant" for more advanced class maybe. (ex : a king feel the need to wear a crown, and can't even use his skills if he don't have one)
I like to know how far it will go as the wolf king's lair was starting to lack in inspiration dungeon wise. I like what you do and I'm glad you picked up the genre. To compare again, like you Stuart has great idea regarding evil MC, but he is a slow and mediocre writer (who love to repeat itself,... Sorry I'm ranting). I like the diversity you provide, please continue and never stop improving! - xcaresRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Lighthearted harem fun in a system world of blood and gore? Didn't reach far.
The system implementation is rather inventive and original. Never read a novel with background quite like this. It sets a solid basis for all magic shenanigans and making the process appear reasonable. Congrats to the author just for this.
Recommended for teenage readers. This is a self fulfilment power trip kind of novel. That's the reason it's a 3 star rating.
In any case please try it out anyway. I didn't get far enough for an indepth review - GrimssonRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Book 1 was not that bad and had new - ridiculously funny - takes on system origins. But with the direction it is taking now, it's becoming full on "good tyrant" doing whatever he wants.
As it has been said in other reviews, this is a very classic alpha male OP MC coupled with soft porn BDSM style. Cringy stuff but just good enough and written well enough that I powered through. Until I realized that guy was inventing and justifying a whole new system of slavery.
Don't get me wrong, I'm the first to advocate for realism in post apocalyptic stories. The end of society as we know it and the absence of laws created through centuries of effort and progress has to end up in chaos. Mad Max type of chaos. But to read about what is basically system enforced slavery and a villainous (but still "good") MC enjoying all that is weird... It's a very strange compromise where the MC is a bad boy but a good guy all the same (he will put is life in danger to save innocents). And he completely support (and profit from) slavery. Just a few weeks after the end of the world...
The rest of the characters are very shallow and obviously only here to make the MC look good.
In conclusion, very cringy dude fantasy and cardboard characters despite real talent in writing. - AlejoTheBearRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I feel like its taken forever to even get the pirate ship since the story started releasing. I don't enjoy the way the mc is waffleing ad the less then sincere feeling behind the morality of it. I dont like the harem aspects, nor the explicit scenes.
The world does seem interesting and I do want to rwad pirate litrpgs but im just not interested in trying to read this story. To much slog for me even if its well written. - NrinRoyal Road★★ 2.0From the very start the protagonist is forced into situation after situation that he has no control over. Also mind-altering garbage as well. If none of that bothers you then you will enjoy this story. If you dislike it then you will hate this story. Two stars for good sentence structure and very few spelling mistakes.
