Description

When a young and inexperienced Dark Mage summons a demon to work in his bakery, he's not looking for much. When that Demon gets frustrated with him adhering so strictly to the contract's terms it cannot claim his soul, she gets frustrated enough to... renegotiate. It's a shame their summoner has no idea what they're doing.

Originally written from November to December of 2021 on Fiction.live, and now edited and cleaned up for presentation elsewhere. The first three chapters will be published back-to-back as I'm satisfied with their edited state. Afterwards updates will come once every other day or so. Though the story will feature suggestive content, it will not contain anything explicitly sexual until its ending.

A Cute baking story with a bit of eldritch flavor.
This is the Royal Road version of a Jenny Colgan romance.
Instead of the average girl with a bit of fluff who enjoys a bicky and a cup of tea, we have an eldritch abomination summoned by a warlock who happens to be a baker.
The labor market is tight, and if you have the option to summon an extra planar entity as part-time help in your bakery, you take it, because a minimum wage is a bitch. This baker's adherence to employment contracts and employment law results in the demonic equivalent of love.
    Contractual fulfillment.

Fair warning, this novel is so excessively sweet that it will make you squeal like toddler. So not only will you be suffering from diabetes due to the excessive sugar. But you'll also have you throat parched from repeatedly squealing and giggling.
The blushing you'll do while reading might also give you a fever. This series is clearly a dangerous biohazard.

Great short story for anyone looking to read an interesting book set in the modern age. I loved the ending and the
    Guest list to the wedding.
Will recommend to friends, Will probably read again. It was a very enjoyable piece and I'm happy to have read it.
(Side note: I love the variation of "happily ever after" used to close things off)
(Also if that counts as a spoiler tell me and I'll remove it. I do not think it is but some people might.)

Normally when a dark mage summons a demon, the demon tries to make the summoner break the contract so it can take your soul... so what can a demon do when its summoner just happends to be a good person, who makes sweets better than heaven and all he wanted was an employee and a maybe a little company?

It's not often I get to binge a whole book in one day.
This is a classic will-they-wont-they romance, with the caveat that the male lead is an ethical small business owner, and the female lead is a world-devouring demon who snacks on souls for breakfast. We follow their relationship from contractual summoning/soul-snatching through mutual respect and eventual love, marriage, and, yes, a little bit of tastefully written fucking.
It's a book with a single, driving narrative, that you experience from alternate points of view.
Style - the book is written in second person limited, with multiple PoV, which is a pretty rare voice that serves to bring the reader directly into the thoughts of the various characters. This is a PoV that can get very messy very quickly, but the author handles all the landmines with alacrity and I never felt as though I wasn't grounded in a character.
Apart from a few typos, the grammar is pretty flawless, and I felt like I was in safe hands.
And this brings us to the characters. Candace, our demon wearing a human skin, is obviously hugely powerful but constrained by contract to harvest souls. She is ancient, emotionally repressed, mistrustful and unwilling to open up.
Barry, our baker, is ethical to a fault. He's a great boss and an amazing friend. He's nice to old ladies; he helps the poor, and he pays his staff on time. He likes Candace, but knowing the power he wields over her as an employer/summoner, he restrains himself and treats her with kindness and respect. It's a glorious dynamic as they slowly open up to one another.
I would buy this book in a bookstore. I would recommend it to my friends. Do yourself a favour and read it.

This is an interesting romance with a nefarious side lurking under the surface in the form of temptations that actually make sense instead of falling into negative cliches. Though it is a fairly short story, it progresses along and the relationship develops. The prose is good and this is written in 2nd person which is rare. I did like the story, but I felt the intimacy chapter to be a bit awkward and funny, but the chapter itself did so much prior to that which was deliberate comedy bits that a quick tone change doesn't happen. I am not going to knock off half a star for that chapter's opening or intimacy. This still deserves it. The story is that good.

The story was very cute and wholesome. The implied humor of having supernatural abilities in an otherwise mundane world while not making it the main focal point was a pleasant relieve from other supernatural fiction. The only thing that was a bit strange was the fact that the perspective always remained as first person even when switching between characters. That however did not deduct from the overall enjoyment I got from reading this.

Really good romance short story! The 2nd person was an odd choice for the genre, but it all worked out fantastic in the end. I was really impressed by how much character development was accomplished in only a handful of chapters. The handful of POV changes were well handled and made sense narratively. Great work by the author.

This is a fun slow burn story where the main characters bond over time as they grow common interests.  It is very sweet and I loved watching them develop their own dynamic.  It was fun to have huge supernatural stuff happening in the background while this slice of life takes place.  One of those stories where there’s hugely weird stuff going on but you pretty much don’t see it.  Lots of fun to read!

I dont usually read short stories, as i like to binge-read, but i am glad i gave this one a chance. There is very little i can say without giving spoilers , since the story is only a hundred pages , but i feel safe to say that the first chapters are interesting enough to hook you even if you dont particularly like romance, the buildup to the romance is as good as the romance itself.
Really , just give this a chance, the story flows smoothly and doesnt overstay its welcome.
