Description
The job was simple: find out why the barges had stopped coming down the river. Surely a group of war veterans could see to that, and have a few laughs along the way. But why had the baron prevented his own people from investigating? And why did their captain insist they journey covertly?
Finding out the truth might cost them everything.

- MoonlightGardensRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A fantasy story that I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something to read, as long as they’re fine with a bit of violence. From the great characters to the interesting world, many are sure to enjoy it.
Style (4.5/5)
It’s well written and flows well. The third-person view changes depending on the chapter (indicated by the name in the chapter title) and it allows for a deeper understanding of the characters. The only thing is, there’s not a lot of description for the characters when they’re introduced, nor their surroundings. It makes it a bit difficult to get a good mental picture of the characters, which may turn away some readers.
Story (5/5)
It sets the stage quickly—introducing key concepts and ideas early on through character action rather than infodumps. From there, it keeps up the action and continues to have readers entertained. It gains a sense of mystery, too, as they wonder who seems to be hoping to get rid of all but one of the group.
Grammar (5/5)
There’s only a few minor errors that really don’t affect the quality of the story at all.
Character (5/5)
Each of the main characters are distinct, something that shows through when the POVs change between chapters. They all have their clear roles that are shown nearly as soon as they appear; it’s easy to remember who’s who and, as already mentioned, get to know them better through chapters in their POV.
