- VictoramsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read it on Kindle Unlimited and liked it quite a bit. It is a blend of a fantasy VRMMO story with SciFi and a bit of military literature. I liked the aspect of that the bodies of the characters are actually being pushed to their limits in order for the players to accomplish the feats they do inside the game. It adds a whole self-improvement aspect to the thing, as if they are actually lifting or something similar when they are killing goblins and such.
The only things that bothered me were the emphasis in party play (an aspect of RPG lit I usually dislike) and the use of the word "gamer", which I loathe (If you play games, you just do that, it doesn't define yourself as something else). But those are personal opinions, they are not faults at the novel.
I await anxiously for the sequel. Thanks, and keep up the hard work! - BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story here changes over time drastically. I wont say exactly what happens, but it most certainly takes a turn for the better. Let's just be honest here. Who was actually interested in the premise? I sure wasn't. Sounded way too boring.
It had all the signs of becoming just another trope-filled fest of an plot, never to really be enjoyed but read fully nonetheless. And I also imagined just that, when I read the first ten chapters of the first book.
Then the plot-nation attacked and everything changed. Plot became better, characters made more sense, and it all started fitting together. Being fully honest, I still don't get the 'I love you no matter how much you cant love me back ever' part but that's fine. The other stuff was fun to read.
5/5. I strongly encourage everybody to read it. - CymRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Codename freedom is back!!
So far the story hasn't really started but it's really similar to the previous one so I'm writing a review based on the ancient one.
The story is interesting and advance at a good pace, but what's is really catching are the emotions we got to feel along the story. The author is really good at capturing horror, pain, doubts and epic moments with his words. This is a war, a brutal one, and we got real heroes in the making to respond to it!
The addition of the future daughter is a little weird so far, but I will wait to see how it is going before updating my review. Anyway, welcome back Elorion! - LiquidOcelotRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's been awhile since I wrote any rewievs, but this fiction, or rather it's first draft, made me go through effort. I just finished reading the draft and was looking for more when found this edited and more polished version. Let me be straight, this story is real deal, for more then one reason. I could go through great lenghts prising style, grammar, character development etc. I feel I should actually. The problem is, I don't know how much is this version different from the first one so it would be only fair to be patient and wait for more content before comparing them.
Most of amateur authors tend to shower their MCs with powers early on, ruining the progress and denying their readers the sence of fulfilment a good story brings. Others set up the pace too quick for their own good. Both mistakes are signs of immaturity to me and their absence in Codename: Freedom is what drove me to it originaly.
Reading one of my favourite stories on RRL is such a thrill. I'm totaly going to enjoy it. - 13lack12oseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read this work when it was a free fiction. The author has come a long way from the original rough draft and created a very enjoyable product with a unique view on the LitRPG genre. I hope this promising new author continues to write. One thing in particular I enjoy is the grittiness of combat and training in your world. It's half way between military scifi and fantasy and that is an amazingly fun mix. Reading this I realize that this is what is missing from many LitRPG books. WOW esque monsters just don't hit you in the gut like an open battle and fear of intense pain.
- GreywolfRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have come to really like this, and I would buy it if I can. Lucious is cool, for the most part.
I like the action.
The by-play betwen Lucious and Kline, and Lucious and Victoria is great.
Would I be able to buy it on Kobo? - markostarasRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0First i would like to say that i like the idea, how the story starts and the prospects it has for a solid and massive world building. This first volume doesn't dissapoint but as i stated in the title there are some things i don't really understand/like which i will try to state mostly bcs the author asked for feedback.
Spoiler: Spoiler
1. Why does the mc feel obliged to protect Victoria? He saved her, she did take care of him but he suspects she could insta heal him but left him with all the pain. But he acts like he owes her or he is under a charm spell?!?
2. Wtf is wrong with Victoria's "professional" bodyguards they let her alone and to get hurt so many times for no reason, and really she did sneak out and they didn't get a clue?? And she is engaged but they push her to get along with the mc so many times?
3. Why there is no agil in the first 3 stats? And the mc is hinted to be faster than the rest with his loosy stats? And most importantly Kline has 3 times the mc's stats but the mc most time doesn't seem much weaker most of the time. And i am pretty sure when the mc gets his stats at that lvl he will insta kill the hobs. Even though Kline is a pro?
4. The goblins attacks where reallyyyyy a mess, i mean how did they sneak the first time and got inside, what happened to the guards, were they really killed so easily and almost no one noticed? And later in the siege, one time it seems like there is no organisation and an other like they have strict rules and someone to command?
5. Reallyyyy important i can't get what happened to the allocation of players at the town, in the first chapters it was hinted many times that there were few players there but later they turned to be more that a tenth of the total players in the game?!?!?!?!?
6. I find it really strange that all those proud people in just 2-3 days have become mindless followers of others instead of grinding around and they stay and fight and get killed when getting hurt was described as an inhuman torture.
T - baengiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall, i liked the first draft more, with the super powers, the space opera ''meta'' and everything. The only part i really from the second draft that was Destiny storytelling the MC history to his girl, otherwise the second draft was mildly boring, especially in comparison with the first. The third draft was better written than the first 2, grammatically speaking, but since the number of chapter available is limited, i can't say if it will be on the boring side of the second draft, though it seems likely from what i read, it is quite likely. Even though, the story is reaching a certain degree of maturity, as it is the 3rd draft. so overall it is a good read
Overall, the grammar is good, there are not a lot of error, though something the writer make error with the weapon the MC is wearing, since it happen often that the MC switch between a spear and a sword. - ScottMRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Enjoyed reading it, and picked it up on Kindle. I'm interested in where the story goes.
Pros:
+The main character is interesting without being OP.
+There is a good supporting cast.
+The game-world has some promise.
Cons:
-The game 'super soldier' aspect of the story is tacked on.
-More Magic please. - Raph772Royal Road★★★ 3.0Well written and the author is obviously skilled however there is one glaring flaw and that is the fact that the MC is BORING, honestly i'd much rather read the story from the POV of almost any of the side characters at this point as they seem to be more interesting, may change in time but so far there's nothing SPECIAL about the MC that makes me care/want to read more about him.
