Thank you so much for reading all the way to the end and for your feedback. It's been so exciting to see the views go up over the last few days. Clerical Error is going up on Amazon June 30th, so at some point, all but a few chapters will have to come down. Check out the poll on the last chapter page where you can help me decide which stuff to keep on Royal Road.

Actually, this is your mom’s video game.

Daria Jackson hasn’t entered NeuroNet to play Challenge of Vircon since her tanking husband passed away. A newly single mom, she quit VR esports to develop biofarming hardware for deep space exploration.

For ten years Daria’s cheered her kids on as they fought their way up CoV leaderboards. While cleaning their VR cabinets, a forgotten login protocol drops her at level one in the game world she almost ruled. Strange glitches and odd throwbacks from her past hint at ghost in the machine related to her family.

Daria’s weekend project is supposed to be writing a speech to present her Perpetual Biofarming Unit at Earthsplorer Command. But now she’s caught up in CoV, leveling up to unearth a mystery. Can Daria choose between the game and her real-world responsibilities?

I have no idea what I really think about this story.
Is it a comedy? IMHO not quite. There's comedic value in the opponents, but they're not really funny, more groan-worthy, and not truly the centre of the story anyway. Apropos opponents. They completely miss the mark if they're supposed to offer nail-biting fights. There's never a sense of danger, every time I would think "someone may get hurt" in another story, in this one, it's more of a "I wonder what pun will be sprung now". Definitely not a thriller, as you'll see with a single glance at the chapter names.
Unfortunately, it's nothing else either (yet). The characters don't truly interact with each other - they haven't had the time yet - so it's not character-driven, there's no plot to speak of, just a sequence of fights, so it's not plot-driven. It's not quite slice-of-live either because everything happens during a few hours. Mostly I'm confused, but reading on.
During the last chapters, a hint of plot appeared, but if it's going to grow to a mature plot, it better hurry up, because the summary mentioned that the book will be published in 4 days. Not much time left to grow. Although the publishing of the last chapters was fast and furious, so who knows.
The one unequivocal great thing is the grammar. It's excellent. No typos and - to my non-native English speaking eyes - no punctuation mistakes either. As close to perfect as RRL ever gets at the very least.
I'm giving this story a solid "WTF is going on here" of 3.5 stars, and hope the last chapters will bring sense to the chaos.
