Description
Jin wakes up to a strange girl passed out in her room, all her possessions stolen, and… In the future? Her civilization has fallen to ruin and now people are calling her a cleric. She’s a mage and spent her whole life dedicated to study... But without supporting enchantments, she's faced with her years of study suddenly being far less useful than she is accustomed to.
Sage finally has the opportunity to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an Inquisitor! Better yet, the opportunity came from helping someone! Who knew she'd get to save a cleric? Life has never been so exciting for her.
Jin wants answers. What happened to her world? What happened to the mages? How long has she been gone for? Who or what are these alleged gods everyone is always talking about?
People are always eager to answer her questions with "the gods did it," but in this belief, she has little faith.

- Emerson FortierRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a beautiful piece if prose. Well polished and well executed. I have no idea what genre I'd call it, but it is very well written and I look forward to seeing where it goes.
Style:
The author has chosen to use the present tense for this story, a decision i thought was risky till i saw how well it was executed. The choice serves her exceptionally well and helps keep the pace quick even during moments of introspection and recollection. The head hopping of the third person narration is smooth as butter as a result. I cant emphasize enough how well executed the style is. Very well done.
Story:
It's well executed. I could even call the story so far flawless if it had signposted more effectively what genre it is in. As is, it is the only area I could give it less than 5 stars. Easily among the cleanest stories I've encountered on this platform.
Grammar:
Saw almost no issues. A few here and there. Very highly polished.
Character:
Easily my favorite part of the story. Both characters are vibrant and fantastic to read. The goof and the jerk. They make a perfect pair. I look forward to seeing how their story and relationship progresses as larger tensions are introduced.
Well done. An excellent start. I cant wait to read more. - SugarcanaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story and the characters are so compelling, scenes fill me with emotion, whether that's a giddy joy at social dynamics to a cold splash of fear as things go wrong. The book is just getting started, but I can tell that where it goes, I will follow. Sage's character is so bubbly, perfectly contrasting Jin's serious demeanor. They have such a good dynamic.
- Youngish OldsterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very dangerous story. In the best possible ways. It hooks you from the start, but the hooks are subtle enough that you don't realize just how hooked you are until much later in the tale. Beware. 😁
At its core, the story works because of the absolutely brilliant main character pairing of Jin & Sage. They're diametric opposites, yet play off of each other perfectly from the fluffy banter all the way down to the deep philosophical and religious mysteries they explore as they try to understand each other and their world.
Jin comes at things from the PoV of a highly trained mage from a now extinct advanced magitech society who is awakened from a few centuries of magical stasis. Her civilization is gone, she's missed an apocalypse or two while in stasis, and finds herself in a world ruled by gods that sure as hell didn't exist when she went into stasis. She's arrogant, self-confident, and thoroughly skeptical of everything in her new reality, but also smart enough to know she needs help to survive her new existence.
Sage comes at things from the PoV of never having known anything other than what her village and church have taught her. Her life is kinda idyllic, including all those amazing ruins that she gets to explore in hopes of finding lost artifacts from the gods. The ruins also tend to have nasty monsters, but she's actually really good at evading them. She's happy-go-lucky, live-in-the-moment, scatterbrained, and unfailingly positive and accepting of others.
The two first 'team up' when Sage breaks Jin's stasis, then escape the ruins and return to Sage's village. At which point Jin gets to meet everybody including the village priest, who fills her in on the fact that she's considered to be a revered cleric who can help the church fulfill the wishes of the gods better. To Jin's highly skeptical surprise.
The adventures of the two build from there, including some ruin delving to help Jin discover what happened during her centuries in stasis, and m - OceanflexRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Your classic Academic Cynic + Bubbly Adventurer dynamic duo. They play off each other pretty well, so it should be a fun read for at least a couple dozen chapters.
There's some mysteries we get the surface level answer to, but not the reason behind yet. They track down answers that are easy to find, but the harder to prove stuff would take more work. It's a believable world so far.
