Claiming Lost Glory

Description
What would one do if they were denied their chance at glory? To be cast aside and become nothing more than a forgotten pile of bones, their names dust in the history of the world?
A peasant who wished to fulfill God’s will and do right by his family, felled by disease. A martial artist with more heart than sense who was struck down by natural disaster. A tribal warrior that couldn't save his tribe and died without the chance to lift his spear.
Across time and space, these warriors were given a second chance, for a god of an accursed land granted them powers beyond imagining and with it, a second life.
What awaits them next? A world filled with rot so strong that corpses disappeared into a cloud of dust and bones. A landscape warped by the Usurper of God, the culprit who waits on his throne. A world where his monsters roamed freely, slaughtering as they pleased. A land that no sane person would ever thrive in.
In this rotten world full of dust and bones, the only path forward was to usurp the Usurper. Or die trying.

- morphiwritesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall - solid read with good characters and world-building.
Style - Isekai/reincarnation story and while that is not my preferred genre, it feels well done. The world-building is strong and the setting is quite grim. Any fans of grimdark stories will probably feel right at home in the world that has been built. The descriptions are well done and vivid without running on too long. Action scenes are well written and have a good flow. Conversations feel natural and interactions between characters are realistic.
Story - Like mentioned above, it is an isekai/reincarnation story with a fairly similar beginning to most. The setting does feel unique and you can feel that the author has put a lot of work and effort into crafting it.
Grammar - no real mistakes of note. Certainly nothing jarring or immersion breaking. The author clearly edits the chapters well before posting.
Character - The main character does feel a little flat as of right now. The story is still quite young and evolving so I would expect that to change. More depth to the MC and side characters will definitely improve the story.
Would recommend, binged the available chapters while riding the peloton and it was quite a page turner. - Bookman9Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author is taking the concept of "Not everything is as it seems" and bringing it to a whole new level. The contrast between the beginning chapter and the subsequent ones brings various pleasant surprises. The mystery aspect of the story is stellar.
Style: Very good narrative with clear action sequences. His monologues don't take away from the pacing and the combat is fast and brutal. Scene transitions are smooth, and the dialogue between characters is real and believable.
Grammar: There is nothing wrong with it. Perfection.
Story: It starts simple but don't let it detract you from what's coming. And when it comes, prepare for the chills at the revelations. There are no info dumps and the setting is very realistic down to its detailed world-building. I love how the characters interact with the world. The goal is clear, going for the tower to usurp devils. Various details and lore are trickling at a contained pace. I'm hopeful for the rest of the world-building.
Character: Currently, our God-chosen Crusader is a man on a mission. Subsequent chapters show that he is beginning to question things surrounding him. Again, Not everything is as it seems. I'm looking forward to how he will react to the revelation of the story's mystery aspect in the future. His Character development will be a blast. I'm sure of it. - ikdahlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great story, that leverages strong prose to present us with a vivid adventure. Also - I love stories that are on the dark side :)
The style is characterized by descriptive language, which the author uses with skill to paint a grim and immersive world. The action scenes are detailed, and takes us close to the scenes, making them engaging. The writing is always with a clear purpose, be that the dialogue or other prose, always pushing onwards with the story.
The story itself is founded on solid world building, where we take part in a unique setting that is not just a cut out, but almost another character in the story. Exactly the way I like my fantasy :) The author also shows that they know narrative structures, resulting in a story that is very well crafted!
As to the grammar there is little noteworthy, which is sa good thing! The language is varied, never getting too purple, but still displaying skill with language.
The main character is very clearly portrayed and we understand his emotions and motivations. The way he is developed shows forethought and purpose. Some secondary characters fall a bit into the background, but that is not too noticeable. - Antknight565Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0🍪 Nom 🍪 Nom 🍪 Nom
The synopsis is quite accurate and the story gets straight into it after introducing the MC.
- People died unfulfilled
- A God give powers
- Cursed world = fighting
The mission/goal is established right away so you can expect constant story progression.
- There's a tower
- Probably a throne within
- CONQUER IT IN YOUR GODS NAME
I recommend giving the story a try.
🍪 Nom 🍪 Nom 🍪 Nom - DweiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Claiming lost glory is an Isekai, and one of the better ones I have read so far. If you enjoy the genre, consider giving it a try. Now, let's get to the different aspects of it:
Style: It's well written, flows quite well, and is enjoyable to read. It's an action pakced story that has quite good pacing, with well written fight scenes that make it easy to visualise what's going on. The prose isn't overly complex, making it a comfortable and enjoyable read.
Story: Hooked me easily, and kept me interested throughout. Multiple point of view characters is something difficult to pull off properly, and detracts from stories, destroying the pacing when not done well, but that didn't happen here. The author has succesfully pulled it off, which makes for satisfying storytelling.
Grammar: I noticed a couple of grammatical errors, but nothing major. It happens, we're all human, and certainly doesn't detract from the story.
Characters: They aren't cardboard cutouts of tropes - I found them to be multidimensional, and enjoyable to read. They have their own goals, wants and needs, which makes it all the better.
Overall, I certainly enjoted reading this, and would suggest it to anyone who likes isekais. - Johnnyboy306Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0From what I've seen in this story, I'm enjoying what I'm reading so far! The writing is good, the world building is expanded on well, and the powers are creative! All of that, and we've only seen one main character so far!
I'll have to see what else is in store for the future, but this seems like a good read so far, and I can't wait to see more! - Lucian T. EinarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0*Overall: Ascension: Claiming Lost Glory is a gripping isekai tale that follows a group of unfulfilled individuals granted a chance to seek glory in a cruel and hostile world. With vivid descriptions and detailed world-building, the story delves into themes of redemption, divine intervention, and the battle between good and evil.
*Style: The author of Ascension: Claiming Lost Glory excels in creating a dark and gritty atmosphere with detailed descriptions that bring the world to life. The action scenes are well-choreographed, and the dialogue, though slightly archaic, adds to the immersive setting of the story. The narrative flows smoothly, transitioning between scenes seamlessly.
*Story: The story of 'Ascension: Claiming Lost Glory' follows the journey of characters granted powers in a world that defies the logic of Earth. The main character, a crusader chosen by a suspicious deity, embarks on a mission to reclaim lost honor and serve a higher purpose. The tale unfolds with a mix of action, mystery, and divine intervention, keeping readers engaged and eager to uncover the central theme of the story.
*Grammar: The grammar in 'Ascension: Claiming Lost Glory' is solid, with few noticeable errors that do not detract from the overall reading experience. The author's attention to detail and editing before posting is evident, ensuring a smooth and immersive read for the audience.
*Character: The characters are well-developed, with the main character portraying a mix of arrogance, entitlement, and self-righteousness. As the story progresses, there is potential for character growth and development, especially as the main character questions his purpose and confronts the challenges presented by the hostile world. Supporting characters add depth to the narrative, hinting at intricate relationships and backstories that could unfold further in the story.
Ascension: Claiming Lost Glory offers a promising start to an isekai tale filled with action, mystery, and divine elements. W - SovranoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The author takes us into this fantasy world where anything goes, jacked up monsters, magic and vampires (Maybe?) There's not a chapter that goes by without some action, and I like that. It really painted how horrible the world the MC was thrown in. The author does a good job of portraying the scenes of the fight, the interactions, and also the MC's worldview. There are some tidbits hidden in plain sight, so this read is not for those who likes to skim through for the important points.
Grammar: Grammar is good. There are some awkward bits right in the earlier chapters, but not anymore in the latter chapters. The word choice is simple enough, and I like it. It provides a nice balance to the already complex world-building that the Author makes.
Story: The plot begins with the motive of the MC, his backstory, and also his goal. It may seem simple in essence, but nothing of it was simple. Everything he saw along the way, the things he went through, and the obstacles that stood in his way were far from being simple. Different POV also provides a different aspect of the world altogether.
Character: Characters were not one-dimensional. Each of them had struggles of their own and their way of coping with it. The Author had done a very good job of painting this to the readers. I like how MC was this goal-driven devout believer, but also someone who was sensitive enough to keep his feet grounded instead of harking everything to work according to his needs. He was vigilant enough to keep him safe from threats but also tried his best to be an optimist and actively look for an ally and help at any chance that he got. Superb!
Conclusion: A good read for those who like their meal heavy and juicy. - CKMoRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is an isekai/reincarnation story where the unfulfilled are sent to a Hell where vegetation is almost nonexistent and the fruits of your hunt must be consumed... alive. Fresh sashimi jokes aside, there's a lot of morbidly interesting worldbuilding aspects where tiny details are fully explored as you go.
The standout aspect of the writing is the vivid descriptions. You can definitely follow the feel, images, smells, actions, and more as you read. The action scenes are reasonably well choreographed and not difficult to follow, with each action being given the adequate amount of weight and oomph.
The dialogue is slightly archaic, but fulfills its purpose in being true to the world that is being presented. I think it works, though may take readers some time to acclimate to.
If I had to nitpick, I'd say that the MC feels a bit one-track minded. That's not necessarily a bad thing - they set a goal and will get it done, death be damned. Secondly, some of the sentence structures start repeating - I don't know if it's intentional or not. The grammar score doesn't mean they have bad grammar, mind - just that I personally crave more variation in sentence structure.
Oh and probably don't read this while eating or drinking. You'll understand :) - PhysicleRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall: 4 stars. Solid read. Grimdark and gory details. If you're into that kind of thing, this is definitely your jam! Kind of a slow burn too (outside of the first combat sections) which I don't mind at all. A little world building never hurt anyone.
Style: Written in the third person. Flourishing style with a lot of exposition and detailed explanations. Perhaps a little too detailed in some places (though that's the rub if you venture into grimdark territory - which this story definitely does). The combat takes a forefront of the story. The battles are detailed and plenty varied, with detailed descriptions of the monsters and the surroundings where the fighting takes place.
Story: We don't have a name. All we know is that a pious man has gotten sick and is then transported to a different world following events in the story. He meets a being (that claims to be God) that gives him the chance to serve Him and reclaim any lost honour that the unnamed man feels he has lost - by climbing a tower and taking the throne. It's an engaging story that thrusts you into combat immediately after the first chapter is done. Something's weird about the being though, but I suppose that's something for later chapters!
And believe you me, he's not fighting rats. The combat is a big part of it, and our main character doesn't shy away from confrontation before eventually stumbling across the remnants of civilisation.
We get some vague hints at events that have happened to trigger this cataclysm that the side-characters have experienced, but I assume the event will be explained further in the story. Exciting exciting. This is where the story shines.
Character score: A little arrogant and obnoxious, but nothing unexpected coming from a zealot. The man wants to prove to himself - and to God - that he can accomplish the task that is set before him, and he doesn't feel the need to answer any questions.
There are killings to be done, after all. Later on when he encounters civilisation, he d
