Description
A slightly cozy Adventure Fantasy following a Paladin, a Dragon, and their Adventuring Party.
Normal people hid from the monsters. It was the smart play when dungeons overflowed and flooded the forests and plains with bloodthirsty creatures.
All Daniel ever wanted was to be one of the brave few that put their lives on the line to cull the dungeons and kill the monsters. But the world had other plans for him.
With his parents’ death after a dungeon overflow, he was orphaned and made a ward of the Kingdom until he reached System age and was able to access the System.
Now Daniel has to come up with the necessary skills and money to be accepted into the Guild.
With a minor blessing of a god, and a desire to see the best in people, Daniel just needs a little magic to ensure his place as an Adventurer...and maybe a dragon as well.

- Justin MarksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's got some cool set-up. As the first chapters roll out, we learn about the system in pieces. I'm looking forward to getting more details and finding out about the baby dragon on the cover. I like that the MC seems to be a good person but pragmatic at the same time. I do hope we come back to some of the threads from the first few chapters. I'm looking forward to seeing more chapters of the story.
- Richard2001Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well now... what to write. This story is literally a story of a young teenager, without parents, who believes in Justice and Honor. As part of one of new jobs, he gets sent out with some other people, where they get attacked by crooked guards. He runs into the deep woods. After several days running, he encounters a group of monsters, who end up not being monsters at all, and do funeral services for them, and received a request to take their bodies to a cave another 3 days further along. He gets there, and runs into a priest of a God. They talk, he clears a small dungeon, after a lot of talking, he agrees to become a caretaker of an egg. The egg hatches, and out pops a tiny little dragon, which immediately imprints on him. That also makes him a Paladin. This is the story of the life of that boy, and his new dragon.
- SamaSriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Early days yet, but hey, I'm loving it. The cuteness on the cover page caught my eye - and the dragon lived up to every bit of the promise.
The mc is just a touch naive - honor, justice and all that; also wants to "not kill people unless there is no other choice". I guess that's sweet and also a little different from usual murderhobo mcs.
His team is good, his powers are ramping up early, the storyline is interesting, ... all round a great start. The narration is crisp and without distracting errors.
Edit #1: We're a bit further along now, and I'm loving how the story is developing, waiting for the update each day. Worth every star. 👍 - ThradokRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love it! Refreshingly unrepentant good guys who try their best. They make mistakes, but no one storms out dramatically at the slightest issue and refuses to just talk things out. The characters feel well rounded and are still learning their place in the world. The enemies feel threatening, but we don't need to just have constant heinous acts graphically described in order to root for the protagonists. And oh my god, the people in charge don't just run rough shod over everyone to the point where you hate the supposed allies almost as much as the enemies! Just, reasonable, normal people for once, I love it! The system is interesting as well, quite unique and varied.
This story has definitely been on my "read immediately" list since I picked it up. Based on the authors comments I would put this as sort of "young adult" fiction technically? But it doesn't seem dumbed down or braindead like a lot of modern slop. It's always interesting and there are complex ideas here, it's just not super graphic or "adult" for no reason, because that's not the point of the story!
Overall love it, can't get enough, and am looking forward to what happens next! - mgarvinmomRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is an intriguing, captivating, well-written story. The pace is good and the world-building is fantastic. While the hero tends to be a little too perfect on the honor and justice scale, he is given enough challenges and rewards to make his story believable.
My only problem is that the author, after doing a fast dump of the story, is already planning on stubbing the story. Doesn't fit well with the Royal Road vibe, that's for sure!
