Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)

Description

This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future.

The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read.

--------

First,‌ ‌everything‌ ‌was‌ ‌fire,‌ ‌it‌ ‌killed,‌ ‌it‌ ‌consumed,‌ ‌and‌ ‌it‌ ‌gave‌ ‌him‌ ‌life.‌ ‌

He‌ ‌was‌ ‌just‌ ‌a‌ ‌tree,‌ ‌born‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌biggest‌ ‌forest‌ ‌that‌ ‌remained‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌world,‌ ‌full‌ ‌of‌ ‌dryads,‌ ‌naiads,‌ ‌elves‌ ‌and‌ ‌treants,‌ ‌but‌ ‌he‌ ‌was‌ ‌alone.‌ ‌ ‌

He‌ ‌couldn’t‌ ‌see.‌ ‌He‌ ‌couldn’t‌ ‌talk.‌ ‌Curiosity‌ ‌plagued‌ ‌him. He‌ ‌dreamed‌ ‌of‌ ‌wandering‌ ‌the‌ ‌land,‌ ‌but‌ ‌could‌ ‌only‌ ‌wonder‌ ‌what‌ ‌stood outside‌ ‌the‌ ‌reach‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌roots.‌ ‌ ‌

The tree was tired of waiting. He‌ ‌decided‌ ‌to‌ ‌not‌ ‌just‌ ‌dream,‌ ‌but‌ ‌to‌ ‌‌act.‌ ‌How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods?

With pure determination.

Warning -There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.

I absolutely love the Ent's perspective this is such a unique perspective to a story. It was cool to see the story starting out through the eyes of the Ent. The author does a good job of showing time has been passing and that a presence has been the ent's friend.
Overall I strongly recommend people reading and sticking with this story. I have broken down all of my other ratings below.
I gave the author a four for grammar because of some errors around comma splicing sentances.
I gave the plot a five because the author has me hooked. I really want to read more about the ent. I am interested to see where this story goes and I will update the review as I read more.
I gave the character score a 4.5 becuase the ent is awesome, but I don't feel quite as invested in the other characters yet. I haven't read enough to tell how much depth the characters have so for now I am giving it a 4.5 on character.
For the style score, I feel this score is a little unfair becuase I consider style and grammar connected. The author's style is pretty good, and I think most less picky would give a full five on this score. To the author's credit, they are very quick to fix any errors that are pointed out in comments, so this will probably greatly improve as the story continues.

I loved not only the story itself but the style that it was written, the descriptions are not long and tyring, but it's just enough to help you imagine the scenario and the characters and let your imagination do part of the job (which I love).
The two points of view of the story makes it so rich, i simply enjoyed very much, and hope that you get more credit for this amazing work.
Some people have great ideas but can't put it on paper, that was really NOT the case.
Considering that english is not this author's first language (hard to believe,I know) I should've given five stars cause it gets really close to perfection, but this is a english website so im not gonna be that easy to win over.
as I know the author in person it may look like that I would give this review just to make the story look good, but im not that easy. As a friend i should be honest about it,and ,sincerealy, i really liked it. When this friend told me about this webnovel I underestimated it's potential, which somehow was a good thing cause I had a great surprise while reading it.
I have read some advanced chapters (since i know the author), and believe me, it just gets better.

I'm just gonna start by saying that the Treant is one of the best things in this novel. It's weird that I can relate to a talking tree, but I can. His emotions are natural and he feels like a real character.
The story takes place in a fantasy world, where we follow the thoughts of a tree, lonely in a giant forest. I can’t describe more of the plot as so much happens in the first chapters that I feel like if I did it, I’ll be giving away spoilers. You really have to read it to understand.
These first chapters can be a little confusing for some, as the novel really goes all in on its world and its characters, but later chapters slow down, giving you time to breathe. This isn't bad per se, just something to know if you are going to read it.
There are very few errors in the grammar, but nothing that would distract your reading experience. I also noticed that the author fixes them very quickly, and you can see the latter chapters have a higher quality than the first ones, promising an ever greater future for the story, which is a great change, as most novels that I read start good and become bad later.
Overall, a great start for a new novel and I can’t wait for more chapters.

The story has loads of potential. Had me hooked from the start and the protagonist is a unique character/tree, which makes this one of the books I'll definitely follow!
There are still some things that can be polished, but nothing that can't be fixed. Would recommend following the author as this could become something great very quickly!

Im just gonna make a basic review because the story isnt that far along.
The story is a nice take on a non humanoid protagonist. A tree gains sentience and want to experience more of the surrounding world while trying to defend the ones he loves. An often used main character trait the most people can relate to.
The reason I gave it a mediocre rating is because the author's biddest problem with the story is the very little explanation given for things involving the main characters especially the Tree. Why is he so informed even though he should have the intelligence of a adolescent child who hasnt ben to school or talked to anybody all their life. You would expect him to have to gain some knowledge from the locals but no he is just born with it. If he was born with it would be better for the author to out right it say instead of leaving blank. I this kind of thing breaks Immersion in stories its always the little things.
This is the biggest problem with the tree mc so far. The story just needs revision and editing or some kind of explanation that can fix it later on in the series.
If the story gets better and the mc's show unique progression Ill invest into it but not right now Id prefer to wait.
Addendum: Right its a good time waster.
