Description

This is the story of a child.

One who should be dead, as nothing survivesthem.

But the child fled and was rescued, through an act that broke prophecies and shattered Truth.

Even though it was only an extended arm.

Now, after excaping true horror, she faces the challenge of the grim reality. She needs to adapt; to survive, but also simply to live.

Even though she was never meant to.

This a world of fantasy. Magic exists, marvelous creatures roam the lands. But in no way is this reality fantastical, magical, or forgiving. It is one ruled by the Imperatrix. It takes place in an Empire that was created on the ashes of the War. And as it is true everywhere, its rules are made by the powerful, the rich and the mindless masses.

[Release schedule is one chapter every two weeks on Fridays 8PM GMT+1 until I get myself in a good writing stride, and then I'll go back to one chapter per week.]

    English is not my first language so please, forgive me for my bad style, mistakes, grammar, and so on.
    What I like first and foremost in the story, is the world constructed behind the story, and the way the world is built, a lot of things are happening in the back. The story is focused on the main character, but I can feel she is a part of the world and interacts with it. Sometimes, the world is moving and the girl has to move with it, even if she doesn't want to. The story gives elements of informations and scenario gradually. It is good because each given information may be understood on the moment or later. It is like we are children discovering a new world, growing up in it as the main character does.
    The characters and the research, the care taken to everything, the documentation and inspirations when needed, all of that felt good to me. My favourite parts were the sword trainings, I liked the roughness of the characters at that moment and it felt real to me.
    I could imagine each chapter in my head with ease. In my opinion, there are great qualities in this book.

    Right now it's the only story on RR I'm awaiting updates with anticipation.
    It's main feature is layers of mystery/puzzles it contains - characters from time to time are saying cryptic things which you only understand as the story progresses. It makes you to revisit the earlier chapters sometimes to understand the hidden meanings better. The only work I can compare it to is George Martin's ASOIAF.
    Another thing which attracts me to this story is that it actually is of my favourite type - strong but not OP MC who's fairly (but not excessively) recognized for her martial prowess.
    If I have to point out drawbacks, it would be that the story has quite a few inconsistencies, mostly between Book 2 and Book 1
    1) When speaking to Vestigio Nay realises that Marke and Rafa knew her true origin from the start; but in Book 1 there are their thoughts of her at that moment as of a peculiar and mysterious child; Marke didn't spot her from afar like Vestigio did;
    2) Also when speaking to Vestigio Nay says that Marke should have destroyed her at that moment because "her powers were latent", but Vestigio earlier clearly said that she's been created as a bomb, even without consciousness, so she was disastrous all along;
    3) If Marke knew her true origin, he didn’t mention it to Redrick who intended to kill her - he could at least try to explain him why killing her was a bad idea;
    4) In Book 1 Ch 7 it is said that Imperatrix has no heirs, but Book 2 says that Jarl the Bohemian is the heir;
    5) Book 1 sets medieval settings for the story, but when MC moves to Lein in Book 2 settings change to a Victorian ones without any reasonable explanations; in Gite only nobles can read, but in Lein most people can, and they even print a newspaper while MC doesn't even know what it is - it's impossible to imagine such conceptual differences within one country.

    Just finished it. It wrapped up in a very satisfying way. Plenty of action, great characters as well as a very likeable MC. Very powerful MC and yet doesn't go murderhobo or creepy. Nice touch of mystery and consistent plot threads that resolve in a good way. What a wonderful ride this was.

    This is a powerful well laid out story that easily kept my interest. As mentioned before the lack of filler is noticeable and appreciated. There is unresolved mystery still. I'm writing this as if the book is finished which it feels. There are a few wrong words and some dubious sentences which interrupt the flow a bit but make no mistake: this is an extremly satisfying read.
    As an aside, growing 1 foot (the metric amount in brackets breaks the immersion) and umpteen bra sizes in two months or so must have given that poor girl some of the most horrendous stretch marks ever.

    Nice and complete. This story doesn't overly explain the magic of the world. It's a bit YA novelish with some story lines but the ending does wrap everything up pretty well. The characters are sweet and mostly 3 dimensional. There's a bit of Deus Ex Machina here and there but not too much to detract from the main characters struggles. Overall a good and complete read.

    Fantastic fantasy story! The world-building was impressive, with enough detail to give context but not so much to bog down the plot. Kudos to you for creating the snippets of poetry, historical writing, song & religious text that both added to the plot and fleshed out the setting. And the ending was perfect.  The surprise but not-unexpected climax was so satisfying.
    I rarely leave reviews but this story was well-done. I'd add it to my shelf in a heartbeat if it were in paperback.

    I just read book 1 in one go. I have read alot of books on this site. Let me change that. I'm currently reading alot of books on this site. Alot of stories here give me joy as a reader. I might be on a "book high" just now, maybe this review will be a bit skewed? I'm not sure, but what I am sure about is that this story, or more like, how this story is written, is hands down one of the best on this site. It is so well done, how it slowly reveals itself, sprinkling nuggets all along, how the characters interact. how they are all so believable and makes so much sense. How they act from how characters with those personality traits would act. And lastly how the story takes these characters and let them all come in and out of the story without sentimentality, all to help the MC and thereby the story, grow and evolve, however that will eventually end.
    Amazingly good. Thanks for this, I'm going for the next 15 chapters released on book 2 this moment. Maybe dinner first.. yes. I'm all tense from the end of book 1, might need a bit of a break before I jump in again. :)

    It's another ninja girl novel.
    Orphaned MC - check.
    Trained in martial arts from young age - check.
    Rare magic powers - check.
    Disfunctional relationship - hasn't started yet, but it's going there.
    You get the idea.
    For the genere... it's fine, I guess? But it feels like it lacks direction. And maybe an editor.

    This here is a story about female protagonist with mysterious and troubled past. And with terrible power that is slowly explained during the story. As seen from my scoring its better than average story, in my opinion, but not great or excellent.
    The story has quite many problematic grammar parts even thou many have also been corrected. I assume this is because it was first written in French and then translated to english. Nothing truly terrible, but every chapter still has some grammar mistakes.
    Characters in story are okay I suppose. Main characters girlfriend being the best of them. The best ones are all lunatics thou. With twisted or overly focused mind towards one thing or another. It can be a good thing at certain times, but it kinda makes them seem too one dimensional or unlikable.
    Now the style and story are what makes me not like the story as much as some others. The premise is nice. its interesting and makes you wanna know more about the mystery and what could be the solution to our MCs problem(s). But as the story goes on it feels somehow hollow. Some stories are too abstract, filled with too much exposition or dialogue, but this has the opposite problem. too little of everything. Scenes moving too fast. Story also suffers, in my opinion, about the 100+ little, or not so little, time skips it keeps making every chapter. Multiple times were are faced with say 1 week time skip and then later on told some of what happened during that time. its like starting a moving, skipping 15 mins forward and then someone giving lil explanation what happened in those minutes. over and over and over again. Why not just tell the story as it goes naturally without time skips?
    The story also rushes its ending. I feel like we were just starting the story when suddenly, out of nowhere, it gets wrapped up in 5 chapters. Like series that gets its funding cut off. Not a good way to go.
    so with all that I give it generous score of 6.5-7/10

    I really wanted to like this story. The prose is uncommonly good, each scene is well described with a good balance of action, dialogue, and description of the surroundings. It's very easy to visualise the spaces the characters exist in.
    But unfortunately, none of this technical skill seems to be in service of anything. The world of Chronicles of the Last Lein is grim, dismal, and dysfunctional. Characters bumble through life with seemingly no knowledge of what anyone is doing or why they're doing it; few characters have consistent goals, and characters fail at communication so often that even these goals often seem in question.
    If the lack of direction wasn't bad enough, the one thing that characters seem to be able to agree on is that if an opportunity presents itself to murder or otherwise cause the death of another character, they take it more often than not. Characters are constantly murdering, or trying to murder, often without any narrative reason to do so. Sometimes a murderer expresses remorse afterwards. Usually they just shrug, and everyone seems to assume they must have had a reason. Characters try to murder their own children in broad daylight and that's just... Fine. No one objects.
    What counterbalances this bleak outlook on human nature, where characters constantly murder each other without seeming to even know why? Well... Nothing, really? Some characters make a vow to not kill anyone. Then they kill anyway because... Well, perhaps that's explored later in the narrative?
    Grimdark cannot be its own end; it needs to be in service of something. The world of this story is simply awful for everyone, with seemingly few to no redeeming qualities. To the extent that the narrative seems to have a direction, it is depicting a world where, when the MC inevitably decides to simply not save the world, the reader is expected to nod and say "yeah fair enough."
