*Review is as of chapter 18*
This story is one of dem gems. You know, one of the ones you randomly (and sometimes accidentally) come across sometimes.
The main character isn't perfect, can be pretty insecure, and is weak both socially and physically. But somehow she's not annoying? I assume it's because when the going gets tough, she's also the first to move. She has a clear set of morals, and is willing to take initiative because of them. And despite her insecurities she still manages to come off somewhat mentally tough, probably because despite the increasingly dangerous situations she gets into she doesn't go off the deep end or do anything crazily stupid. Instead she thinks things through with her MIND. She has potential! I'll enjoy her slowburn growth to Highest Queen.
Other than Ria, there is Blake. Blake is... I don't know enough about Blake to really say much. I'll admit he gets more charming as you read along (especially at chapter 18) but right now after Ria my favorite character is Finn. Finn for the winn!
Now, the enemies here are interesting.
At first glance, they all seemed evil for evil's sake. Later I breathed a sigh of relief when it turned out that they, too, have layers to their character along with actual goals and motivations. (I love it when everyone has a different goal and manages to screw up each other's plan, lol. It's just my cup of tea.) I don't want to write any spoilers but I will say I like that Ria is constantly seeing familiar faces everywhere.
ALSO, the times the viewpoint switches to a character other than Ria, it ACTUALLY furthers the plot and ADDS to the tension. I can't tell you how rare that is, smh.
Ok I will stop tying now - CasualEvilRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is looking up to be one of those kind of stories. Y'know - the ones that you leave to stew for months just so you could come back and binge the hell out of it later.
This story is NOT your standard isekai. From what I've seen so far, everything is shaping up to be one hell of an adventure - and one that requires a thinking protagonist too. Do not mind the very confusing synopsis. Tl;Dr: Ria is a girl in so much crap that is way over her head... But she's smart even though at the moment, she's still debating whether or not to step up to plate.
Did I mention that she has no cheat power at all to help her out? Call me a sadist for finding that refreshing, but damn, protags are meant to suffer since they get to do that which we cannot.
A huge bonus to the story is that, so far, her smartness and general genius doesn't mean she gets a one way ticket out of messy situations.
The style the story is written in is good all things considered. Considering that style mostly covers tone, I'd say the author nailed it. Up-beat, kinda, but not so upbeat that the seriousness of the situation slips by you. The style is in tune with the story.
As for the story score, the only reason I refrain from giving full marks is because I am currently at chapter nine and things may change, but from what I'm seeing so far, it has a solid story, with us discovering the world of Milror alongside Ria.
Okay, grammar. One or two typos every five chapters or so but overall, a solidly done thing. The author knows what they want to say and they get their point across... Which is all grammar is about, really.
Now character. I am LOVING Ria so far. She actually seems like a human being, and man, the other characters were introduced just right. The only reason I'm not giving full stars is because, again, still at chapter nine.
As an extra point: ever read a book with 'choppy' dialogue? Well, it's certainly not this book.
All in all, I like what I see. Binge this thing already and give this book some lo
