I will start with a fact that I was playing and watching Nekopara myself, when I was much younger and things were much newer. It has left me some fun impressions, but of course as the time passes things that are like it aren't quite as great anymore.
Which is why this story is great.
It's a story that takes Nekopara as a frame, but tells a different story about different characters... all while having the fun Nekopara would casually have, obviously family-friendly that is. This is a story of exploration, relationship, choices and... dreams that go beyond the happiness of content life and superficial idyllic appearance.
In fact, this is mostly story about the travel and exploration in another world, a story that is like many others stories of going into another world... but its background is what makes it unique. It provides comfort, removes risks and makes it absolutely possible for you to stay and not explore or go further. It's the vanilla content that makes you feel fluffy and smile at the security and warmth of this world.
Figuratively and literally, this Choco story couldn't work without such Vanilla content. Both as a world (because roleplaying Nekopara was a crucial emotional and meaningful setup stage), as characters (because Mary could grow as a character due to Vanilla) and as an emotional theme - because in the torrent of emotions, vanilla feelings are there to soothe and cure depression, sadness and pain.
I am a sucker for this story, so it is my highest score. I will admit it, fun out of it for me made it great.
