Description

Xian was shaped by shadows. Taken as a child to the infamous Lotus Pond, he was trained to serve the Gilded Emperor as a tool of subterfuge, a collector of secrets, and a weapon against Semetra’s enemies. Stripped of his past and identity, he has only one purpose: to protect his homeland and redeem the shame of his father’s dishonor. But when Xian is sent on his most dangerous mission yet—to infiltrate the enemy kingdom of Rathania—he discovers a land as wild and unpredictable as its infamous rulers.

Rathania is a kingdom teetering on chaos, where ancient magic entwines with rebellion, and its enigmatic Four Thrones hold power as much through mystery as force. Xian must navigate court intrigue, rivalries, and the ever-present threat of war, but what he doesn’t anticipate is Prince Lamaj di Alexela—a man as fierce as the flames of his brother's crown.

What begins as a mission of espionage becomes an intricate dance of trust and betrayal as Xian and Lamaj grow closer. In a kingdom where loyalties are fragile and the truth is a blade that cuts both ways, Xian must decide if his duty is worth sacrificing his humanity—and the first flicker of love he’s ever known.

As the shadows of war deepen, Xian is forced to question everything he’s ever believed: his country, his mission, and his own worth. For in Rathania, nothing is as it seems—and neither is he.

    Summary
This story follows Xian, a young man trained from childhood at the notorious Lotus Pond to serve  as a master of espionage. The story is still growing as of this review, but it is shaping to be a FASCINATING story with a lot of intrigue, character growth, and cool espionage
It is a M/M, so if that's not your cup of tea, be warned.
    Style
The author clear and direct language, so it is really easy to read. Very direct and to the point, but in a good way. There is no time wasted here! The romance is incredibly well written and very spicy... but not TOO spicy. Very tasteful.
    Story
The plot is engaging, presenting a blend of espionage and personal discovery. Right off the bat you realize that things are more complicated than they seem. Is the MC a good guy? A bad guy? And what of his home? So many questions brought up. And the romance angles are interesting, it's keeping you on your toes.
    Grammar
A solid grasp of grammar, with well-structured sentences and appropriate punctuation. This attention to detail is a strength.
    Characters
The characters are a fun mix. Special operatives with strong internal struggle. Themes of trust and rebellion seem to be woven into the characters themselves.. The characters are well-defined, each playing a significant role in advancing the story. How the character handles their... romantic entanglements, is very well done and I can see it leading to some fantastic character moments.
