Cheaters Always Win

Description
Chester Everheart was a trickster. A conman. A thief. He knew life wasn’t fair, so he evened the playing field with his own unethical brand of chaos. When he was involuntarily dropped into a world of game-like mechanics, monsters, and magic, the troublesome thief persevered. He stuck to his principle, regardless of which dimension he inhabited.
Playing fair is for suckers, and cheaters always win.
Cheaters Always Win is a comedy-adventure that I've had churning in my head for a couple years now. I'd like to think it still has the charm that most LitRPGs have while also being unique in its own way. Every arc of the story will subsequently have a 'Level Complete' chapter that details all the stats, levels, equipment, etc. gained by the main cast of characters.

- msharlo1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't leave reviews often, but when I do they are usually good reviews because those are the only stories worth the effort.
The characters have depth. There are some trope-parallels but not a lot of tropes in themselves. Ex, There are a few OP characters like a vampire prince, but that isn't the MC, the MC can still get the upper hand against said characters in some situations, and even the OP characters face difficulties without too much deux ex machina forcing them to lose to the MC's plot armor (it does happen sometimes, but it is believable with a dash of foreshadowing)
The MC is strong for his tier in the hierarchy of power levels, but that is mainly because he is reasonable clever. It does frustrate me a bit that he can be lazy, and misses some obvious exploits I would try, but that actually makes him more relatable rather than a perfect OP MC.
For those of you still not convinced, well... there are also killer robots? Seriously, if you took the time to read this review, give it a read. - AndICERoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is really well written and feels thought out. In the beginning there are a few hiccoughs but nothing more than minor prolblemc that would at max take away 0.1 of the rating i gave. The characters are well and fleshed out and are developed in my opinion quite realistically. I couldn't find any grammatical errors but that kight be because i am not a native speaker so i may have not noticed those. Normally on RR i see stories with amazing concepts, but with mediocre characters and story progression. I really felt immersed in the world and never once was brought out of my immersion by the stupidity of the characters or events or unrealistic circumstances. Blue boxes are held to a minimum and story parts are maximized. Characters act reasonably and arent subject to many commonly used in my opinion annying tropes. At first glance the setting may be generic but the characters are very well written. The interaction between them was good enought, that i lost myself in the story after only a couple chapters.
For the second volume i fear that the character development of chester may be too sudden, but as there arent too many chapters of the second volume out yet, i cant really judge this woth certainty.
All in all i hope this story continious and i am starving for more. - AzZzoRRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It hurts me that the novel was abandoned when I got to such a good point in it. I feel like a wife abandoned at the altar. I would consider this novel as the definition of a hidden gem, one of those that are buried in RR and that once you start reading you can't stop. I love the world developed by the author and the personality of each character, whether main or secondary. I will miss this novel and the robberies of my beloved protagonist.
- ReadingroyaltyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Why stop, this is so good. I enjoy this story, I like the characters, I like the MC's, I like the world, I like the system.
So much to like, I hope this guy gets a book deal or something because this is so much better than a lot of the stuff peddled in here.
Fantastic work, I hope it continues. - WalterEKurtzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like the this story. The characters feel real, the worldbuilding/setting is very nice, the storyline makes sense, and there is actual cheating.
As mentioned by others, the characters feel real. The MCs actually experience different emotions that arent over exaggerated, and the emotions actually get resolved. With that I mean that they experience emotions during and sometime after certain situations, but they dont constantly linger on those emotions/experiences, giving you the feeling things get resolved.
The worldbuilding/setting is very cool. The author explains more and more throughout the story in a very natural way. If can't be slotted in the main storyline neatly, the author either uses flashbacks or the occasional POV change.
For the storyline, I dont want to spoil too much, but I like it very much. It isn't too complicated, but also not too simple. There is a deeper mystery, but there are no 5 layers of meta mystery wrapped up in it. Which makes it good to follow, but there is still a lot to figure out reagarding the mystery in the plot/story.
And as a last thing, the MC actually cheats at stuff. He doesnt cheat at everything, so it isnt overdone. But it's also done often enough that it's actually a core part of the character/plot. Which makes that the summary conjured the right image/idea in my mind about the story.
For future readers, I hope you will enjoy the story as much as I have. - highblast21Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I may have moved past my obsession with Isekai adventures from my youth but it doesn't mean I can't appreciate and read some from time to time.
This story has just the right setting and humor so you won't get bored and the fights are descriptive without making it too much of a narration. Though there's not much to say from the good'ol Isekai formula format, it does make up for the coherent and clean style of writing which makes reading easier and appreciate what the world has to offer. A healthy amount of chapters doesn't hurt also.
So any of you feel the need to scratch those Isekai itch, then I highly recommend this gem! - QuanpoopsalotRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly disappointed this doesn't have more readers, it's 9ne of the best novels on the site. The characters are funny, they have a good dynamic, the world is well fleshed out, it's REALLY good. The start is a tad bit slow but other than that if you're on the fence jump in and give it a shot.
- FastFoodNationRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A quick review before I am getting to tired while finishing the chapters.
This is your usual unusual trangmigraton story. It starts off in the middle and while that may not be to everywomen's like it spares us the hassle like so many stories similar to this have (who in their right mind wants to hear what you feel in a womb). We do get some backflashes.
So what does this story right. First off all characters behave naturally and have interressting personas. The worldbuilding is exquisite and we get thouroughly entertained. Our main character is powerful, but not overpowered (a little cheat, but that's actually necessary, or do you think your modern man could survive in a world of monster and magic), he is smart (very important), resourceful (most important), but so far no plot armor, also funny (a much overlooked trait in many stories) and charismatic. All in all what one should like and expect in a good character after too many stories of whiny teenagers, horny teenagers, shy teenagers and your everyday do-gooder (those would die in a breath in a cutthroat mediaval world). Also the story portrays perfect what can happen if you find the right balance off what we can learn and what we can teach others in a magical world (like sure you can teach some concepts to a foreign world but mostly you would have to start of at the beginning like a child and would have to learn everything new).We also get a nice side-kick from the beginning.
All in all the story has a nice balance. It rises your sense for adventure and leaves a good aftertaste. I am very intrigued how the story will progress. - GrinRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I find every aspect of this novel very entertaining. The characters especially feel natural, real and are very well developped. Neither they nor the story and it's world feel cliché, predictable or unnatural, while still seeming quite real. The writing in itself, while not stellar, is fairly good, and at the very least perfectly adequate.
Some things in the worldbuilding or powerscaling don't always make a lot of sense to me, but it never broke the immersion. The system is never bothering. I'd love to know more about the world, and every tiny ( often funny ) paragraph before each chapter is a treat to read.
The plot occasionally feels a tiny bit far-fetched or contrived, but not the interactions betweem the characters. While being very fun and entertaining, many serious and darker elements are perfectly integrated into the story.
The characters really are the strong point of this novel, and even the side characters are very enjoyable to read about. I love every single one of the interactions (pleasegiveusmoretoreadnotnecessarilyaboutsidecharactersbutpleaseIneedmore).
This novel is very enjoyable and entertaining. If you have not tried it yet, I recommend at least giving it a shot to pull you in its interesting world and characters.
(caruru you are motivating me to finally write, thank you.)
Cheers from France, and thanks for the fun ! - AbandonRoyal Road★★★ 2.5In my opinion the story should have started from the beginng ,showing all the struggles the mc has to do to keep alive. The main character was very likable not so the other one,he was not belivible at all.The story would have been much better without him .Over all it was a ok book just not for me
