Why is this so unknown? A wonderful book. How to put it though is kinda hard. I suppose it feels like a classic? Not generic or uninteresting but like you know the spins and turns and are looking forward to them.
A dying man plays a realistic VR MMO on full pain settings so he can feel something and overcome himself, before he inevitably dies.
The work is honestly approaching greatness in a certain way. Lots of little details, but not enough of it in the background. He's approaching that line where it goes solidly from a book to a world. Of course I'm early in but it's at least a great start.
The author has a, let's call it an ethic. A way of being. Do I fully agree with it? No. But his passion is his passion. And I feel that as the story continues, the author puts forth his views with strength. He just needs to show it more, not less.
Basically, I can see the honor but the passion takes a little longer to build up steam.

So far in the story, everything has been very consistent. Lack of detail is not a problem, and so far I just hope the weight of those details doesn't collapse the story under their weight.
Early on in the story we aren't given all the details, which is great! We weren't there so why would we need that information? Later on we get world building, and plausible reasons for why things in the story are happening.
If you were expecting a straight cut to "Omg video game superman ", you may want to slow down that expectation.
    I'll write more later.
Its later, and the details are beginning  to weigh heavily. So far its chapter 50, and after getting into the game's tutorial, he has hardly left it. He has started to become video game superman already. Which for me is sad, but maybe it's for you!
It's a pretty lighthearted experience at the moment, with some plausibility issues and plot holes. They dont ruin the story, but they can be felt easily on thinking of them.
    SPOILER START
An example being how the Chinese Indian superpowers are both on decent terms with Cybercore, to the point where they can extrapolate Carl's age based on his account. Yet they don't check the actual person linked to the account to find out they are dead, or have never (been mentioned) to have military experience.
It was also mentioned that Super Ai bots exist to monitor cyber crimes. So how has he been able to continue playing the tutorial underaged and set up a way to get money directly into an escrow account.
    SPOILER OVER
I still reccomend giving it a read, and will not be changing my scores at this time.
