- MadmanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Really fun read. The best thing are the character interactions though not perfect yet.
I think if the author touches up the style which will come with time, it could be a phenomenal story.
Good luck with the rest! - luda305Royal Road★★★ 3.0This story bothers me a lot. It's written with a deep level of skill. But because of that, the flaws which are present seem especially magnified and make this a teeth-pulling experience.
To begin, the fiction has a wonderful style of writing that is rarely seen on Royal Road. It's something akin to published high fantasy. And the primary characters (less so the secondary characters, especially the elves) are rather well-written. My only complaint is that one character frequently shifts between very casual and very formal language, which is very confusing.
Where the fiction falls apart is in the plot and the worldbuilding. As to the latter, stuff just seems to be tacked out without considering the consequences that would have on other aspects of the world. As such, the world is deeply disjointed. And in the need to build tension, the big bad that shows up does in such a way that I can't help but wonder how the world doesn't face an apocalypse every century.
The plot itself is also troubling. Things just kind of meander around, with "events" just happening. It almost has a D&D feel, where the GM can just cause stuff to happen to propel the plot forward. But trying to actually have all those act together, and it's a long series of improbable events that tends to break the suspension of disbelief.
Perhaps my biggest complaint (and this has a very D&D GM feel to it) is where one of the secondary characters gets
The character has barely been met (just the chapter/day before) before the character is killed off, causing great angst to the rest of the primary characters, and causing the character's brother to join up.
