Description

I apologize for anyone who was enjoying this story, but I am quietly dropping and stubbing it for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your support.

“… and a Great Unifier will be born to usher in the Dragon King’s return…”

How humans came to host animal spirits is only one ancient mystery lost to the slow decay of time, but that history is culminating into the fulfillment of a last great prophecy. When foretold signs of the prophecy manifest, one family is caught in the mires of religious superstition, compulsory leadership, and the perils of those who seek to thwart the unification of the tribes — regardless of whether or not the prophecy is even real.

Chains of the Dragon King Prophecyfollows the Yudha family and their inner circles as they struggle to navigate the unique challenges that come with being the supposed family of prophecy while balancing the mundane struggles of everyday life.

⚠️ Content Warnings:

The [Sensitive Content] tag is in place because I do not pull my punches when it comes to traumatic themes. I do not go into gratuitously graphic details, but the content is present. My [Graphic Violence] will be mild, but there will be gore and death. Be prepared to read the odd swears and the occasional intimate scene that will fade to black before a tag becomes necessary.

📖 Author’s notes:

My long sagas are tools to practice, develop, and experiment with my writing while telling a story that I genuinely love, so when things stand out to you — good or bad — I am grateful to you for taking the time to point them out to me. Thank you for your patience!

This is my third saga in the world of Ulakam which got its start in 2020 when I wrote my first ever fiction,The Last Primordials— a story that delves into the lore of Ulakam.Power Has Sought Youwas an exploration of Ulakam hundreds of years afterTLP, andChains of the Dragon King Prophecyis the "bow on top" story. All three stories are stand-alone, so there is no need to power through the prequels. In a lot of ways, these stories chronicle my development as a writer as much or more than they document the history of Ulakam.

This isn't a book of constant shounen like fights, isekai or LitRPG, so if that's what you're after, better go elsewhere
What this is is a very well developed fantasy world, a standalone book part of a bigger universe, and if you do like it, there's plenty more of it to read in the two completed books that are part of this series.
If you like characters with depth, well thought out world building, and a flowing, purposeful description, this is a place to look. It's greatest strength imo (my favourite) are the character interactions and the explorations of their emotions. The main cast are all very likeable, and those that aren't likeabke, well, you'd have just cause for wanting to berate them. Fortunately our MC is as good with her words as she is with her weapon.
The well paced plot provides intrigue and questions that make you keep pressing next chapter until there are no more. Shady characters plotting things, hints towards a larger prophecy and a rich history between characters, it's a story with multiple threads with much to explore.
Grammar is virtually perfect, so nothing to say in this department.
Disclaimer: You could argue I'm a friend of the author, though that said, I've only read a fragment of her works and my comments above are my genuine thoughts. I give my "criticism" (or rather, suggestions) if I have any, every chapter as I read them, and I have no issue calling something out that I don't like :)

I want to start by saying that I have been following these sagas from the beginning. I love this series and I am invested in this world. There is so much mythology embedded in the world, and it all weaves together. It is really fun reading this most recent installment knowing all the back stories. It's so rich, and THE CHARACTERS!!! They are so multifaceted and richly developed. They are easily the high point of Trish's storytelling.
    Breakdown:
Style: This is the third saga of Trish's that I've read. Her style continues to be straigt forward, but it has also matured a lot through the series. I know she highlights this in her blurb. Obviously I like her style or I wouldn't keep coming back.
Story: Having read her other sagas, I already know this one is going to be a banger. So many different things are all coming together here. I'm genuinely excited to see what she has planned for this story. The world building is incredible, especially if you've read through her other sagas. We have been drip-fed mythology, details of different cultures, history, and a light magic system through all of the sagas. None of the world-building is shoved in your face, though. It just... is. It is so well done.
Grammar: You might find a typo here or there, but it is generally very well edited.
Characters: Did I mention that the characters are amazing? The characters all have individual personalities. The MCs (I noticed the multi POV tag) are likeable but flawed. So flawed. Somehow there is balance between lengthy, episodic storylines and multiple, significant character arcs. We are 12 chapters in, and I am already seeing the beginnings of some of these character arcs.
    Thanks for the stories, Trish!

I have waited and waited for this sequel to come out!! “Power Has Sought You" is one of my favorite stories, it is masterfully plotted and executed. So a sequel?! YES!
It can be read as a standalone, but I’m just gonna say, reading the first adds a lot of depth and background. But if you don’t want to read the first, still read this.
Style – Trish’s style is straightforward. It’s not overly flowery, but still includes artful description and compelling dialogue. This story is different from PHSY in that the point of view changes (opposed to purely Callida’s). Trish does a great job getting into the “mind” of each character – the styles and thought processes differ depending on who is narrating. (Squad 14 from the Bear Tribe? The differences in their POVs are fascinating!)
Story – I love the mixture of romance and action. We jump straight into new conflicts and Trish doesn’t shy away from making them painful.  After the villain is taken down in the first book, the transition into the new conflicts feels natural and not contrived. The conflicts are also diverse, whether Callida is fighting a war, councilmen, unknown threats, or working on her relationship with Rogue.
    Grammar – No complaints!
Characters – Trish is great at writing characters. There are a plethora of them, and they are all well developed and serve a purpose to the story. And if you have read the first story, there is SIGNIFICANT character development (I'm looking at you, Verum). And the cool thing is, there is already room for the characters to grow even further.
    I just love this series!!!
