- CynicRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5All right he asked for my review so here I go.
Style (4.5): Not bad. Definately gets a point across and is not a tough or boring read by any stretch. Its third person with swapping perspectives. At the beginning of each chapter and every time perspective changes the POV characters name is immediately posted top center. Which is nice, I hate having to go back and reread a portion of the story because the POV isn't revealed until after several paragraphs.
Grammar(5): I really hope people would have a grasp of basic grammer if they are going to post stories online. Not sure why this is even a category. yeah the grammar is fine, anyone using word or google docs gets auto grammar corrections.
Story score (4): I knocked off a star for one reason: The side stories. They are great for building up the world and telling and how stuffworks. The problem is that they are so heavy on exposition that they sometimes read like an instruction manual for a tabletop RPG. The rest of the story is standard fantasy fare. It reminds me of the old Greenwood or Salvatore novels where you get a group going from event to event with no real greater plot revealed until much later. Lots of threads, nothing tying them together yet.
Character score(4.5): I was going to rate this lower because at the start a bunch of the characters fell flat. It took a while for some personalities to show, I think the author might have been a bit confused at the start.
Overall 4.5: A good read if you are into classic fantasy but it looks like it is going to be a long slow ride.
