Description

Think your life is tough? Try taking your dog for a walk in just a loincloth.

The instant he opened the chest that looked like it fell straight off the Game Of Thrones set, Chad's reality was turned upside down.

His home city has vanished, replaced by a strange fantasy world. Fantastical creatures chase him. His seven-pound Chihuahua, Slash, can speak and seems to enjoy using his potty mouth. And a game's AI is talking to him, or he's suddenly hearing voices. Neither is an attractive option.

When they discover they've been transported into a survivalist fantasy game, they realize the clock is ticking. Too much to do and not enough time to do it all. Gather resources, build a camp, fight fantasy creatures, and form alliances just to make it another day.

But there's no rest for the weary.

In the military, Chad saw enough violence and decided long ago that he was done with it. Darkworld has other plans. The game's AI seems to be pushing players to compete against and even kill one another in the ultimate game of survival. To make matters worse, game designers have allowed outsiders to pay to hunt players. Making a sport out of murder? In Darkworld, anything goes.

Chad and Slash find themselves confronting death at every turn.

In a world where even allies could become enemies, Chad is going to have to become what he doesn't want to be just to make it out of Darkworld alive.

This is a work in progress.Major editing will be done after the book is complete. Expect typos and imperfections--some of those make it into my 20+ books already out in the world. No one is perfectafter all. My gratitude goes out to everyone willing to help me find these errors now. Since this is my first time publishing on Royal Road, I'll do my best to keep everyone updated as I progress. After this work is approved, and I upload the initial chapters, I will upload new chapters 2x per week. Thank you! - Paul

General Information:

Chad The Impaleris a litrpg/gamelit survivalist series. The first two books will be written in 2023. The series has heavy survivalist elements, inspired by games throughout my life that put characters in bare environments from which they had to  gather resources, build camps, weapons, and even kingdoms. Stats and progression are part of the characters' journeys. The stats are part of the story, but those who don't care to read them will not lose out on the story.Humor is important. Even though these characters have had everything taken away from them and find themselves in a new, austere reality, there is always space for humor (because real life is serious and stressful enough, isn't it?). In any story between a man and his talking pup, expect guy humor galore.

    Opening.
This gave us a nice idea what Chad, his world, and of course his relationship with Slash were like.
It’s a good draw into the story itself and makes you turn the page.
    Story.
There’s a lot of tried and tested tropes in here, which isn’t a bad thing, I just felt I wanted a little bit more, due to the amount of books the author has already written. In terms of story, this is on classic lines with a lot, people will love the humor and the fantasy take, they’ll love how the system reminds them of games gone by. To me though what really does carry this and push us into reading more is the characterisation from the get go, and I think without the banter between Chad and Slash it would come off as pretty much like a lot of other books out there. So this sets it aside really well.
    Style.
The authors style and the game system introduced here are nice and easy to follow, nothing bogs me down, there’s no abundance of overt description and the dialogue really moves it forwards and at a nice pace. Making it also feel much easier to read than a lot of the fics here. I really also loved that Slash is still just Slash, there’s no human paint over here, he’s a dog. That’s it. I expect maybe he might learn a bit more as the story goes, but keeping him so energetic as a dog is just refreshing and a must. Keep the dog in him! Don’t let him grow too much and become something else. Lol
    Grammar.
I can’t comment as usual on this, nothing jumped out at me, and I really enjoyed all of it. It wasn’t hard to read through and even again the second time, I never noticed anything that was out of sorts.
    Characters.
Not too many introduced so far, it’s slow and steady, which means it might well be a nice series which some do like to dig their teeth into. Slash and Chad are of course the lead, though I do think Slash if going to overtake people’s minds and its going to be more of a story about him than Chad. Lol In my honest opinion don’t let it. There’s some good play in here, but don’t le
