Catgirl Dungeon Mafia Wars

Description

Kati used to run a cat café. Now she is summoned to run a dungeon by a lazy cat, and the dungeon Mafia are after her.

They won't get her. She will rise to the top, just as her cat café once did.

Through the power of cute cats. And overwhelming firepower.

I'm writing this for fun. And as a challenge of sorts. Let's see how it goes. I put all the warning tags on because I have no idea what's going to happen in this story.

you should read this story for many reasons
it is written by renowned author ZECHAMP, whose polished prose consistently brightens my day
it has cats! a whole dungeon full of them. also, a talking cat! and, the main character is a catgirl! who used to run a cat café!
also, guns. blam blam wham boom. shooting the bad guys is fun!

This story is a briliant work of staggering genius from the moment the main character opens her bag, and it just propels itself forwards from there, barrelling downrange with its devastatingly penetrating lens on dungeon core as a genre.
Grammar: There's nothing much to say here. I can't even really meme about it—zechamp's grasp of syntax, structure, and the rest of the technical elements of English creative writing are excellent. I presume that the Japanese transliterations are similarly correct, because zechamp knows his shit.
Style: There's nothing particularly special going on here, but by the same token there's nothing at all odious either. It's just good flow, good prose, good description. Things don't need to be unique or special in order to appeal; at worst, the style is "merely" charming and inoffensive. At its best, it works hand in hand to both delight the reader and amplify the satirical lens simultaneously.
Character: Simplicity can be elegant, and this story rocks it. Characters aren't so much one-dimensional or one-note as they are archetypal; they come into play as the trope they're personifying and then diverge and become more complex from there, rapidly. I love it. The story also does a substantial amount of using the characters themselves to explore the tropes and meta-canon of the genre, and it's hilariously well done.
Story: Catgirl Dungeon Mafia Wars opens by unpacking all of our assumptions about the genre and the story it's going to be, and then makes fun of them—not by making fun of the reader, but by solving the mysteries and questions in ways that are far simpler and more elegant than what the genre expectations. It's quite frankly a hydrostatic shock to the wobbly bits to have a story so willing to jettison norms and conventions in favor of fun and zaniness.
Overall, I give this nya-nya-nya-nya-nyan stars out of five, and would definitely visit the main character's place of business.

Brilliant from start to end. Guns, cats, big cats, dungeon cat cafe shenanigans, you got everything. Chapters are fast and snappy, and it's a straight power romp to the top. No doubt about the progression at all.
System's fun, skills are funny, the stats are funny too (HP 1, nice). Because that's how mafia works. Literally.
Just read it already, what are you waiting for?

I said I'd so this when I remembered, and here I am.
    Tldr:
Overall: Enjoyable. Characters are fun, the system is interesting without ever feeling overwhelming, and also cats and cats girls. Which, really, what else do you need?
Story: Fun, and fresh. It's not a complicated tale, but honestly, it doesn't need to be. All parts of it slip right into their spots and go together like a well-made Jigsaw puzzle.
Characters: Solid, and easy to enjoy, though it's Zechamp so that's not surprising. Even the minor characters have enough life in them to get a basic picture.
    Writing: No complaints here.
Overall: Enjoyable read, and people who want catgirls, guns, cats and more cats should give it a go.
