Cat Degeneracy

Description
Mekiko thinks reincarnating as a catboy is the difficult part — he is mistaken.
AnIMPERIALoperative, he's more likely to fumble over emotions than in battle. Struggling between pride and instincts, he grapples with maintaining normalcy. It's no easy feat, especially for those out to pet Mekiko’s ears.
He navigates a society of guns, magic, and oddities. But his real challenge? The expectations that drive him up a tree. With vying to get stronger, learning to handle his impulses, he maneuvers as a catboy to find his identity.
Neither the land nor Mekiko wants to be a part of reality. When his own urges focus on betraying his sensibilities. Mekiko must find out where he belongs. Dignity and desire blurs the line, it’s hard to tell what he’s fighting, the world — or himself.
What to expect:
– Slow progression
– Slice of life
– No Harem! Slow burn romance
– A catboy with a sense of snark
– Lots of-Nyas~

- FalstaffRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved this so much, it's absolutely silly.
Mekiko is freakin' adorable and I love this wacky world and the characters in it. There's a small cast and the story is very slow-going, but they're all so cozy I didn't mind the slow pace.
Characters are the highlight of this story. Thousand Cuts is so delightfully camp, I cannot stand it. Donovan is sexy in a nerdy paternal kind of way. Lyle is an interesting character, and I get the sense there's some bait-and-switch romance happening, with a sprinkle of enemies-to-lovers. But romance is not the theme of this story, to my chagrin, frankly. I was hoping for a wholesome m/m romance, but thus far, I haven't detected any overt romance. Mekiko seems to have a heavy crush on his mentor in a very 'notice me, senpai' kind of way that I find both problematic and stupidly adorable, so I kinda ship it even though I'm quite sure that's a toxic bad idea. I'm more interested in following a Mekiko/Lyle redemption/romance arc, but that's me. I'm not sure if that's the direction the story is headed, but I think it might be.
Grammar is a minor issue here. English isn't the author's first language, so little mistakes are rampant, but the technical writing does improve as the story progresses. Ultimately, the story is clear enough to be understood. I recommend a trial subscription to Grammarly. My manuscript lit up like a Christmas tree the first time I downloaded Grammarly, and I learned so much about grammar and my own writing tastes in the process of editing. - Rune FalstaffRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved this so much, it's absolutely silly.
