- BlareRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It was great, to speak, Noah is a great character in the grand scheme of things and I really enjoy reading this book. Now, let's get to the details of the review about the story and so on and so forth.
Style: As far as style is concerned, this book has the nooks and crannies right. I don't see anything really out of places, what are things that are out of places? Well, for example, some authors are going to throw a wall of text that doesn't have any concern for the reader's comfort whatsoever. Or the ones that are creating stories that consist of lines instead of paragraph, that sort of thing. However, as far as this book goes, I don't see any of them, which is a good thing.
Story: Noah's adventure has given us indsight into his characterization, I don't see him as an uninteresting character, but quite the opposite since he had clear motivation, clear goals, and so on and so forth, and I was captivated to continue reading this story.
Grammar: I don't see any problems here whatsoever, like, this book wasn't spotless, but it was nothing that doesn't deserve low rating whatsoever. It is what it is, and it's great.
Character: It's great, I already reiterate the points in another part, but Noah is an interesting character. It's great. - SerSlothicusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great story and I’ve loved the developments so far! The genre is familiar enough to be understandable but unique enough to be captivating. One aspect of this story that I’m loving so far is the inter-species interactions and how

Noah is interacting with the Orcs, finding them to be more in line with his philosophy and outlook on surviving. Really great read and am looking forward to what happens next! - Will doRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well written and engaging story. Can't wait for it to continue. Meeting minimum character count for this. I've said what I need to say. Minimum word minimum word minimum word minimum word minimum word minimum word minimum word minimum word minimum work minimum work minimum work minimum work minimum work
- pissgastriqueRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Thats about as much as i can say for ithis one. It hits all the targets. It has number, going upward. It has people that could be called characters. Things seem to be going in a plot-adjacent direction.
More seriously, it seems like a good start for a first-time author, and i don't want to be harsh. 90% of everything about this story is great, its just the 10% that lost me. The characters are pretty weakly characterized, to the point that I was having trouble remembering the protagonist's name. Perhaps it gets better as it goes on, but with how aimless this seems, for now, I'm bouncing off. - DistressedKoiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5LitRPGs are always an interesting genre to me, as it is the rare genre that seeks to trap its own writers. The allure of levels and increasingly long lists of skills and powers that give readers the sense of vicarious success come at the "cost" of easily increasing your word count, leading to a soft encouragement to pad and dilute.
As of writing this (chapter 14), Caste as Dust has managed to set itself up to avoid falling too far into this trap. By allowing the System to be integrated at a slow pace (one slower that simply 4 large new things a chapter) it has allowed the story to remain focused on the way that the cast comes together to face their new reality. There is a lot of promise in this, as an apocalypse story lives and dies by the lives of the cast, rather than their deaths. It's a fact often forgotten about in many modern entries in the genre, as the humanity of the cast is often abandoned in favor of large spectacles and even larger body counts.
The lead, Noah, is a good example of the characterization of the story. A former doomsday prepper, his dedication to training himself prior to the System’s arrival has left him prepared for the early conflicts of survival, but ill-suited for the role of leadership required once he becomes the guardian of three lost youths. He can make fire and fight, but struggles with making harder calls and the worry about being able to truly keep everyone safe, since his isolation in prepping has left him unused to the responsibility of caring for others. He is glad that he was right about the apocalypse, but never quite becomes a gloaty fucker about it, as his preparation was to help himself and others survive rather than for vindication. He’s well rounded, with flaws and strengths that reflect the life he’s lived quite well.
If Caste as Dust can keep the characterization of the cast strong and balance out their development against the changes of the world and the struggle for survival, it has the potential to be a sol - Kevin PetersonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The first volume was well-written, engaging and enjoyable. The author has crafted a story that definitely keeps my attention and draws me in. I especially enjoy the growth of the characters and the development of their relationships. I am eager to see where the story goes and how the outside elements will ultimately impact the characters we’ve come to know. Keep up the good work!
- BirchesLoveBooksRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Definitely an interesting spin on the System Apocalypse genre, though I think there's a lot more room to delve into the main character's backstory and past. He's got a cool hook and then we pretty much just swing right into the swing of things and never come back to it. This may be something that's already in the plans for later in this book, but that's my only real criticism. Very fun read and well worth your time if you like the genre.
- GoblinMerchantRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Look , is it entertaining ? Yes ,it's a fine read .
If you're looking for a little something to pass the time, this will be great for you .
...But, if you are looking for an actually great story , this won't do .
The characters are one dimensional, everything is solved way too easily and there is no real conflict .
Oh the Mc is poisoned , oh he is awake after a few days , no consequence.
Oh the town is enchanted , the person who did it is appeased with just a few words .
The Mc understands the kids struggling? Scratch that , a few weeks later he's a tyrant .
The Mc just accepts the tribe of a different species and doesn't mistrust them at all? He accepts essentially a random burden just to powerlevel him .
Like , it's fine if you just like number go up, I like number go up .
This is clearly not an experienced writer and that's totally fine , just don't expect anything great, it's just fine. - LOLsuitRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The MC gets a vision of a coming system apocalypse, and becomes 1/2 street preacher and half self improvement, for 1 chapter. Then it happens, but the tutorial drops him out in the woods away from any equipment he might have stored.
The most survivaly it gets is boiling water in animal skin.
The MC is a fighter, leveling by fighting, but rulership will come by some form of cultivation. That direction to the story is fine, but it is not what I was expecting. Fighting & cultivation is pretty standard fare. Ordinary even. By separating the MC from his supplies, it removes the prepper bit. By handwaving much of the survival crafting, that also goes away. - ChaoticpowerRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Started off good when character was advancing solo and getting skills and growth. Got bad after starting ascending the mountain. It just seems weird and he feels too weak. Plus animals becoming sentient and advancing faster than humans is just bad. Also the super powered dragon on the lowest level was never explained seems like a plot hole.
